OVERVIEW:
--------------
It has been proven time and time again within the city of
Hallifax, and doubly so within the confines of the Matrix
Research Institute - the capabilities and potential uses
for crystal are as numberless as the stars themselves.

Crystal is able to capture light, both refracting and
reflecting it to produce dazzling aesthetic displays. It
is able to be put to use in a similar way regarding the
flow and conduction of energy, as seen all throughout the
Beacon of Harmony.

But it is not the introduction of light to crystal that
we will be examining during the course of this study, nor
is it the transference of energy. Instead, we are going
to examine another, much less commonly pursued talent of
crystal - its abilities relating to sound.

The presence of crystal within the composition of musical
instruments is not a new custom, just as the knowledge of
this material's ability to conduct and enhance sound is
not a matter of new finding. The primary purpose of this
study, however, is to uncover data that will prove yet
another marvelous ability of crystal.

THESIS:
----------
I have hypothesized that, under the proper circumstances
and with certain modifications, gemstones can be urged to
produce audible frequencies and vibrations that will be
classified beneath the term 'sound'.

PROCESS OF STUDY:
--------------------------
After first conducting research to uncover the properties
of each variable used within the experimentation phase of
this study, the process will be as follows:

TRIAL ONE
- Measure the level and frequency of vibrations produced
by spinning harmonic gems of three classifications
within an absence of other variables

TRIAL TWO
- Measure the level and frequency of vibrations produced
by spinning harmonic gems of three classifications with
the introduction of a channeled application of air

TRIAL THREE
- Measure the level and frequency of vibrations produced
by spinning harmonic gems of three classifications with
the introduction of a channeled application of cosmic
energy and matter

Sound is not a tangible object. You cannot touch, taste,
see or smell sound. Sound is only able to be heard, or
felt in the form of intense vibrations one's person may
be subjected to.

Sound exists in waves, invisible to the mortal eye, that
spread outward from the source in all directions until
met with opposition. Research conducted alongside the
Department of the Natural Sciences and Higher Energies
has concluded that within ones auditory receptor (an
organ commonly referred to as the 'ear'), there exists a
smaller sub-organ that is used by the body to intercept
these waves and relay them to the mind as 'sound'.

While the exact workings of this auditory sub-organ are
indeed interesting, they have been withheld from this
composition due to their irrelevance to the foremost
subject of study. What is relevant, however, is the fact
that sound cannot exist without the collision between
these vibrational waves and units of air.

Air in its natural state consists of numerous components,
units too minuscule to be seen by mortal eyes. It is
through air that sound travels, and it is through air
that sound is made possible.

When vibrational frequencies are introduced to the air,
the collision of these units become sound when introduced
to the auditory sub-organ discussed on the previous page.
This is the sole piece of knowledge that will be put to
use in this experiment. All else is considered irrelevant,
or is limited to the jurisdiction of the Centre for Aero-
mantic Engineering, and will not be included within this
study.

The study of the applications of the Cosmic Sciences (or
Cosmic 'magic', in less-developed cultures) is a field
that explores methods of manipulating and bending the
space, matter and energy around one's self to produce
varied effects.

This cosmic energy holds echoes of Creation itself, and
as such is limitless and omnipotent. While harnessing
this energy is a simple task through training, the act
of manipulating it to serve a purpose outside of the
general realm of practice is in and of itself an endless
process of experimentation and study.

Cosmic matter, however, differs slightly in its methods
of application and use. Most commonly referred to as
cosmic 'dust', this matter is likely the minute trace
of a byproduct of great cosmic happenings, such as the
birth of an Elder or Half-Formed. Practitioners of the
Cosmic Sciences are able to utilize this matter in a
very limited number of ways, though that is not to say
that they are numbered.

Further study of cosmic energy and matter has been
withheld from this record due to constraints of time
and relevance. Those seeking to expand upon this very
brief study of its properties are urged to meet with a
representative of the Department of Metaplanar and
Transdimensional Physics.

The following is a collection of research notes and
observational data and findings. For any clarification of
terms or a more detailed description of methods used,
please seek out the logged Researcher.

(As I have overseen the entirety of the experiment, this
line could be considered a bit redundant)

RESEARCH LOG - 13 URL, 304 CE
TIME: 10:28
RESEARCHER: Eritheyl Zayah, M.TS

The twelve charged gemstones have been selected and
prepared for the experiments to come. They are, per one
trial, a single ruby, emerald and sapphire. Tomorrow
will mark the official launching of this experiment,
anticipation is high.

RESEARCH LOG - 13 URL, 304 CE
TIME: 11:36
RESEARCHER: Eritheyl Zayah, M.TS

We have acquired a much-needed planar modulator from the
Dept. of MPTD Phys., and have successfully altered its
mechanics to both detect and relay the strength of
vibrational waves and frequencies noted as sound. Each
gemstone will be set in rotation for exactly one hour,
at the end of which we will extract the recorded data
from within the device - a total of three hours of
recording time per trial.

An unexpected miscalculation relating to the device has
arisen, displeasure is abound. The device did perform as
intended, measuring waves and processing the data to give
us a tangible figure. However, the resulting data from
the first trial (ruby) is not meeting expectations. All
experimentation has been placed on hold, pending this
investigation.

The error within the device has been identified and
corrected. Rather than detecting solely the presence of
vibrational frequencies, the modulator instead had been
gathering the data of the air displaced by the gem's
rotation in addition to the compounded collisions that
followed between units of air. A single hour's time will
tell us if this modification to the device is to be our
last.

A great success. The first of our subjects, the ruby
crystal, was determined to emit a frequency of 4uvf*.
It appears that even when sound is not audible to
mortal ears, it can still be issued forth in a sub-
audible frequency. This will open new doors for the
field of Science, in time. Next to examine is the
emerald crystal.

The emerald crystal is noted as emitting a vibrational
frequency of 11uvf. As the crystal was nearly congruent
in size and shape of the ruby, it is curious to see that
there is such a great difference (almost 300% increase)
in uvf. Our final gemstone will begin its revolution
cycle momentarily.

Another success. While the calculations are all in place
for the next trial of the experiment, it has been decided
that it will be postponed until approximately noon. Our
dear Aeromancer wishes to rest through the night, before
we enlist his aid.

CONCLUSION:
------------------
Harmonic gems, when spinning without the introduction of
variables, produce low frequencies that are not audible
to mortals. Or, at the least, lucidian, trill and humans.
Further experimentation will seek to learn if this holds
true for other races, notably loboshigaru, aslaran and
furrikin. Air displaced by the gems' rotation prevents
the frequencies from reaching a notable height. It seems
also worth noting that modulators are not to be trusted,
they will always resist attempts at predicting mishaps.

Our assisting Aeromancer has assured us that he is able
to perform his requested duties for this trial of the
experiment. Channeling the air that surrounds each of
the test subjects, he will mould it into a sphere that
will, with a stroke of luck, reduce the displacement of
the air by the gem's rotation, and increase its uvf out-
put for the entire duration of the modulator's recording
by containing the resulting vibrations. Again, each
subject will spin for one hour.

The data has proven to be unreliable. It seems we have
yet again misjudged the qualities of air, though this
oversight is even greater than the first. We will begin
conducting our research in a more fitting area, and
further modifications to the modulator have been
requested. A request for a greater number of magi has
also been issued.

Upon relocating to a smaller chamber and increasing
our Aeromancers by two, we may have finally accounted
for all possible future oversights. Though the span of
the aerospheres (as I have come to call them) is much
greater, the concentration of air therein has proven to
be equal to that of the first attempt at this trial.
Therefore, all of the following data should prove to be
correct. We begin again, as always, with ruby.

After much effort on behalf of our Aeromancers, the
gathered data has shown theory to be fact. The ruby
crystal was found to have averaged an output of 25vbu,
just over a 600% increase from the first trial.

The data gathered from the emerald crystal proves the
previously-questionable consistencies created by our
changing locations. Its output was also roughly six
times that of the first trial. A small celebration
followed this phase of the process, and for good
reason - the emerald produced an audible vibration.
It was slight, but it was there nonetheless. Hopes
are high for the final gem of this trial.

The great face of Science smiles upon us this day.
Not only was the sapphire able to produce audible
vibrations, but an unexpected second effect came to
light. The term 'light' is a rather effective attempt
at humour in this situation, as it is precisely that
which this trial resulted in. Somehow the spinning
sapphire was able to extend its radiance to fill an
even greater portion of the aerosphere, something
neither seen nor expected from previous runs. This
requires further investigation, before we will begin
the final trial.

CONCLUSION:
------------------
Condensing a field of air around a harmonic gem will
increase its vibrational output, and produce an audible
frequency for emerald and sapphire. A connection between
the colour of a gem and its frequency will be examined as
a possibility, though it is noted that this may only be
found with charged harmonic gems, rather than mundane.
Certain gems (sapphire) will also increase it output of
light. Modulators are still not to be trusted, though we
are leaning towards more friendly terms.

A full day's worth of investigation has led us to no
definite conclusion regarding the strange events of the
second trial sapphire. My only hope is that a similar
occurrence will rise within the third trial, so that
perhaps a correlation between the uvf and radiance of
the harmonic gems can be found and recorded.

RESEARCH LOG - 16 URL, 304 CE
TIME: 12:28
RESEARCHER: Eritheyl Zayah, M.TS

The final ruby is prepared to spin. For this trial, we
have elected to raise a sphere of the same density and
size as with the previous trial, the lone difference
being in that, rather than air, this sphere will be
constructed of equal parts cosmic energy and cosmic
dust. Air will be taken out of the equation entirely. It
will take much more preparation time per trial, but it
is my hope that the results will be astounding.

The vibrational frequencies conducted just as expected,
altered to previously unseen heights within the presence
of the cosmic spheres. An average output of 4012uvf was
recorded for the third and final ruby crystal, and it
was successful in filling not only a portion, but the
entirety of the cosmic sphere. At first we assumed that
the reading was yet another mishap regarding our lovely
modulator, but given the introduction of such a powerful
energy, nothing is outside the realm of possibilities. It
is also worth noting that we were able to hear the tone
created by the ruby, much more distinct than E2 and S2.

Our data has proven to be consistent so far, as the
increase of output for the second trial emerald to the
third is roughly equal to that of the rubies. Again,
the output of the gem's radiance also increased by a
large amount. Tone was again audible, higher than that
of all previous subjects.

A most dazzling display, the theories hold true yet
again. The final gem of this trial, and of the study
overall, proved to be the most stunning of the twelve,
as anticipated. It is now time to begin searching for
uses for this proven research, once all of the attending
interns regain their sight.

CONCLUSION:
------------------
Condensing a field of cosmic energy and matter around a
spinning harmonic gem will further increase its output of
vibrational frequencies, and create audible tones from
all three of the tested gems. The radiance of the gems is
also increased by a significant margin, though the direct
cause of this phenomenon may be pursued as a separate
study. It also appears that modulators are certainly a
most excellent method of recording data of this sort.

Of the explored methods, the introduction of cosmic
energy and matter has proven to be the most effective
in attempts to create sound from the spinning of a
harmonic gem. The hypothesis has been proven and, as
such, the experiment was ultimately successful.
