An Enlightened Master to His Students: On Freedom by Azhi
Merit for June 2011
- Let us recall the tale
- Of the reveller and the wren
- Our reveller danced the night away
- Then retired to his den
- He awoke to light, sweet birdsong,
- Turned his face to Father Sun,
- And there upon the windowsill
- Perched his tawny musician
- The reveller was elated
- At so tender and pure a sight
- He said, "Oh, to wake so beautifully
- From carousing in the night!
- Good Bird, is it not lovely,
- Living a life so free?"
- The wren responded blithely:
- "It is when you're me!
- With wings I live unbound,
- Your cities I defy;
- For all your base and worldly things
- Seem small against the sky."
- The reveller considered this--
- "Perhaps this bird speaks true!
- If Freedom abounds amongst the clouds
- Then I shall have wings too."
- He gathered his materials
- (some okorushi blend for inspiration)
- And in time for the evening's revelries
- Completed his creation
- Atop the pyramid, by sunset,
- Our reveller's winged silhouette
- Caused all the drunken citizens
- To watch and place a bet
- Their gasps gave way to cheers
- As he took to the air and heightened
- He rose into the firmament
- And thusly was enlightened:
- "I've experienced true Freedom,
- Yet only now do I understand
- If I'm to be as my friend the wren
- I need some way to land!"
