The Embrace of Winter

Summer may well be almost upon us, beyond the realm of Lusternia, but it is winter here! We wish to keep you warm and comfortable in the Basin of Life so enjoy these new and improved crafts. This distinction is important this time around as we have both entirely new patterns for you, as well as, updates to old crafts.

NEW PATTERNS

SWEATER: available to Tailors (Sweaters). A new skill available at 50% Capable which allows one to make sweaters. Sweaters require 20+ commodities, can be worn over other clothes, and provide a lot of warmth (warmth factor of 15 to coat’s 12). They will go over most everything as they are considered Overwear, and you can even pair a sweater with a coat. When designing these, keep in mind the following rules:

  • Sweaters designs must be knit, not sewn to resemble modern sweatshirts.
  • Sweaters should not have words in their designs, these should be embroidered separately.
  • Sweaters should not try to resemble graphic t-shirts.

BUNKBED: available to Artisans (Bunkbeds). A new skill available alongside Beds, bunkbeds offer comfort while preserving space. While beds take up 55% of Normal Furnishings, bunkbeds only take up 25%. They also have a separate top and bottom bunk and you can sit, lie down, or simply sleep on either. HELP FURNITURE will list the syntax to use these, but you can always just use them normally too and default to the bed at the bottom. Much like beds, they require 250+ commodities to construct.

MITTENS: available to Tailors (Accessories). Keep your hands warmer than in just a pair of gloves with mittens, which have a warmth factor of 5 compared to that of 3 for the gloves. Much like gloves though, they require 20+ commodities to craft.

DIADEM: available to Jewellers (Crowns). Prefer appearances over warmth? Show yourself off in a fancy new diadem, no matter the weather. Much like crowns and tiaras, they require 150+ commodities to craft.

TURKEY: available to Cooks (Dishes). Nothing better in cold weather than some oven-roasted turkey with herbs, you only need 10+ commodities like for all dishes!

IMPROVED PATTERNS

CUPCAKE: available to Cooks (Pastries). Do you also detest having to design “cup cakes” under the Cake pattern to get your hands on those delicious treats? Cupcakes will now taste better as their own cupcake pattern available under Pastries and require 8+ commodities to bake instead of 12+. All existing “cup cakes” were rebranded as “cupcakes”, moved to Pastries, and had their commodities adjusted.

ARMCHAIR: available to Artisans (Chairs). While a smaller problem than “cup cakes”, there were a number of “arm chairs” out there as well. They have all been rebranded as “armchairs” and now possess their own pattern under Chairs.

RACKS: available to Artisans (Racks). These have not received a new pattern but to support a growing desire for wine racks, they will also now preserve any bottles stored in them.

This update also comes alongside CHANGELOG #2832 which has a summary of all the changes and updates for clarity.

Finally, as per usual you can find at least one design of each of the new patterns so you can enjoy them right away. If any of the above designs don’t quite work as intended, please BUG or TYPO (depending on the particular issue) right away with as many details as you might have (what command you tried, what happened, and so on). We look forward to seeing all of your new designs!
