Dark Tales of the i'Xiia Asylum

A sudden explosion rocked the Basin of Life in early Dioni, 208 C.E., of
unknown origin, causing massive tremors to rock the communes, and tidal
waves to sweep across the cities. Many rushed to Avechna's Teeth to
investigate, finding that a strange tunnel had been unearthed, within
which led passage to a dark, blood-stained lobby. Though many tried to
gain passage deeper, a strange enchantment foiled every attempt to
penetrate the asylum, throwing them out most gracelessly. After some
time, Valaza i'Xiia of the Presidio of the Damned claimed responsibility
for the explosion, declaring her intentions to enter the asylum and
claim the knowledge within.

Shortly afterwards, a wavering dreamspirit visited New Celest, slightly
bewildered and confused, yet desperately wishing to speak with the
city's leader. In lieu of Collvan Solwelume, Shric took charge and was
taken aside by the spirit, who quickly imparted knowledge and asked for
help reinforcing the barrier. When it was revealed that none knew of the
asylum's existence, the spirit took Shric on a dream journey, showing
him the cruel wardens who subjected the undead mugwump to endless
tortures. Meanwhile, Valaza i'Xiia continued to assault the magic
barrier that had sealed the asylum. It was now only a matter of time
before the barrier shattered. Fearfully, the spirit revealed himself as
Nacal, caretaker of the asylum and creator of the barrier magic. With
the barrier in flux, Nacal urged those who would do good to aid him in
creating a device to destroy the barrier completely in order to find an
alternate way to protect the Basin from the insane undead hordes. At the
same time, in the name of claiming the i'Xiia dynastic knowledge hidden
within the asylum, Valaza continued her assault on the barrier. Thus, a
race began to destroy the enchantment and pierce the institute's depths.

Days passed before Shuyin finally was able to complete Nacal's device
and breach the barrier. As the barrier's magic slowly unravelled, Shuyin
entered alone and was the first to witness the unspeakable torture. It
was then discovered that Nacal had imbued the last of his knowledge and
his memories within a guardian elemental, who then urged the Ascendant
Shuyin to assist him in pacifying the undead mugwumps, in order to keep
them and others safe from harm. Moments later, the barrier broke and
chaos descend upon the asylum as the Basin's residents entered,
slaughtering both mugwumps and staff indiscriminantly. Eventually, it
was Desitrus who completed the magic necessary to pacify the mugwumps.
Within moments, both mugwumps and staff fell silent, sent to a deep
sleep.

Unfortunately, the sleep of the undead was not forever and they
eventually shook themselves awake. Beckoned by the dark mysteries of the
institute, Exeryte of Glomdoring assisted Alakar in brutally tormenting
the residents and conspiring with Valaza i'Xiia in completing her
hideous experiments. Whether the experiments were a success or not,
reports appeared of a creature of darkness following Exeryte around.
However, it seemed that Shuyin's prior aid to Nacal had guarded the
mugwumps from mutilation, and Valaza i'Xiia cursed him for damaging her
experiments.

With visitors never likely to forget the horrors that go on each day in
the institute, the rumours continue to spread of the strange curse of
the i'Xiia asylum.
