A New Bloom Among Gods

As summer spread across the Basin of Life, an uncommon light and energy
descended upon Avechna's Peak. Many came to investigate the phenomenon,
but nothing was found in the northern mountains to explain what may or
may not have taken place. Even the Gods considered it passing strange.

Yet, as summer waxed on, wildflowers blossomed in exuberant colour
across all of the mountains, growing so thickly that travellers found
themselves stumbling over the blooms. As many wondered what this might
foretell, Zixen Eli'Silar was wondering about a strange bard who found
him in Southgard, asking many questions and seemingly ignorant of any
history beyond some of the names of the Elder Gods.

Soon the bard wandered on her way, and was seen by Ried Nimaet of
Glomdoring, where some of the southern forest taught her of the Wyrd,
and then Ruri and Valestrix of Magnagora explained undeath. Days passed
and more and more people marvelled at the bard and her strange golden
eyes, though she said little about her background.

Then the skies to the north lit with a rainbow display, casting Mount
Seirode in a dizzying array of colour, and many hurried to the mountains
to find the bard again, poised once more to ask questions of all who had
assembled and carefully avoid answering any directed at her. After a
time, she requested a tour of the Serenwilde, and Xiel Talnara along
with other Serens were pleased to oblige.

The wildflowers began to spread down the highways of the Basin,
encroaching upon the forests and even growing into the cities. Many were
alarmed, and as the bard travelled she listened to these concerns and
was greatly amused at what she called the silliness of the flowers. It
was only when some of the Serenwilde expressed concern with the vibrant
blooms that she agreed to help rid the Basin of the nuisance.

A month passed, and again the bard came to those she had befriended in
the northern forest, asking for help finding tools so that she might do
something about the flowers. Smiling, she explained that she had left a
key with May in the Grey Moors, a cipher by which her tools could be
found.

The Serens excitedly descended upon May, and after some coaxing she
handed to Aramel Talnara not a key, but a plain grey orchid. When
touched, a voice whispered clues in verse that led them first to the
isle of Itecia. It was here that it became apparent that these were not
ordinary tools, as instead of finding an object, the flower itself
absorbed the black colour of the sands in a thin streak across one of
its petals. Astounded, they continued, soon covering the flower in many
hues, and then brought the rainbowed orchid back to the bard.

With great care, the bard drew the colours from the flower one by one,
painting them on the ground, and then she picked them up on a palette
drawn from the mountains and asked to be shown some of the errant
wildflowers. The blossoms parted before her will as she touched them
with colours from her palette, leaving the paths through the Basin
unobstructed once more.

Yet the bard was not done with her magic. Pulling off her concealing
veil, she transformed before the astounded Serens and ascended into the
sky, no mere mortal but the Elder Goddess Maylea, known as the Bloom of
Serenity. Descending upon Avechna's Peak, She gladly greeted the Serens
as they arrived, as well as other visiting mortals, explaining that She
had felt uncertain of the First World and wished to explore it before
revealing Her true self. The flowers, She explained, had known Her even
in the disguise and grew to gain Her attention. In appreciation of this
tenacity, Maylea set them within Her fulcrux, where they even now show
visitors the way to Her master shrine.

Penned by My hand on the 2nd of Juliary, in the year 208 CE.
