Reishi, and slightly to a lesser degree arnica - herbs

Greetings Everyone,

This is a message that should mainly concern herbalists, so if you're
not a herbalist, feel free to skip this post.

Anyhow, to business. I know you're all probably sick of these posts
saying "Don't overharvest" and "Leave at least 10 of a herb in a room".
The fact is, we NEED to abide to these rules. Only just this month I and
a guildmate had to transplant reishi from another area to the Klangratch
Cave area in the Razine, as the herbs inside those caves were EXTINCT.
Completely plucking places clean is inexcusable. Either people are not
aware of what overharvesting is, or they've been warned and decided to
disregard these warnings or expect others to re-plant areas for them. I
will say this now - I am not a tolerant man when it comes to abusing a
herbalist's right to cultivate the land.

Besides those comments, I have just a few requests, which for the good
of herbalists everywhere need to be abided. The Klangratch caves were
just replanted. If everyone wants reishi in the future, the cave should
be left to replenish itself. This means no stripping it clean, and I'd
personally recommend leaving it completely for a while. Another herb I'd
like to talk of is arnica. When I first became a herbalist, arnica was
plentiful and as easy to find as herbs like chervil, marjoram and
galingale. These days, it's gotten rarer and rarer with overharvesting
and people clearing a room completely of the plant. I personally spent a
day or so covering the Northern Mountains again with arnica, and
replenishing areas of the Southern Mountains. Again I speak of the
Razine Mountains - one large section of it had no arnica at all. I've
begun re-seeding it.

In summary - do not harvest reishi in the Klangratch caves for a month
or so. Do NOT strip arnica in mountain areas completely, or any herb at
all for that matter. Leave at least 10 of a herb in each room (Check the
number using the syntax PLANTS for those who don't know).

And on a last note - I strongly urge herbalists to help in re-seeding
the continent of herbs, if they can help. If every possible area in the
many environments have herbs on them, that's more for everyone, and less
skilled herbalists still have a chance to practice their trade.

With Honour,
Sethai N'kari.
