An Interesting Truth

I came across an interesting letter. It came in the fall out of
Catarin's, after her bounties failed to scare me into submission, lies
about how I was attempting to drive a wedge between Serenwilde and
Celest. Of course it is no surprise to me that after Catarin's plan
failed, she would attempt to use the forest which has dropped to her
knees time and time again for Celest to try an eradicate a personal
enemy. Of course I am only her enemy because I like the truth, and
refuse to not spread it, the truth I spread is not one that looks good
for her.

Lets air some dirty laundry before I get to the real point of this post,
which may or may not be believed. I really do not care if people choose
to live in blissful ignorance, as long as they were given the choice.

Not so long ago, I was good citizen of Celest, in good standing, an
Admiral in the Celestian Aetherfleet, and fairly well liked, rising in
politics and all that jazz of an ascending figure. Then on one fateful
day, my then guildmaster wished to speak with me, and pulled me aside.
This aside was an ambush, in which I was attacked. I defended myself,
and in the end killed my guildmaster. I was in the process of explaining
it to Celest when suddenly my guildmaster accused me of murder, and out
citizened me, and out guilded me against Celest laws. When Catarin was
made aware of this fact, she swept the truth under the rug, and began a
campaign to defame me.

While it is true in the years that followed, I made good on my enemy
status, after all why have something that was not earned.

Seeing I was undaunted by her attempts, Catarin took another step
issuing bounties on me, and encouraging her Paladins to hunt me. I in
turn hunted them, a serious of individuals who proved to be adept at
running, and taking advantage of five to one situations. The bounties of
course failed as fewer and fewer Paladins came after me and I was
allowed to walk in public, through crowds of Paladins, unhindered.
Here is where it gets interesting. Catarin looking for another way to
silence me, tells Serenwilde, or has Serenwilde told that I am planning
to try and drive the two communities apart, which at the time was a
complete fabrication. Of course, Serenwilde being as gullible as they
are believed this accusation without a lick of proof other then the word
of Catarin and who ever she arranged to agree with her. Here is the
funny thing, I had stopped hunting Seren's, and I had stopped even
trying to bother them, because I realized the Serenwilde, no matter how
much I hated some of the people in it, are still a forest, and thus
should be a sister. After all, is it not true that the cities are the
true enemies of the basin?

Then I receive this letter... it was sent by a coward, but I suspect the
cowardice goes even deeper then just insulting an individual and then
not signing it. You see, this letter came from an owl, but after some
talk with a contact in Celest, it seems the letter was actually sent by
a Celestian trying to turn my anger to Serenwilde.

Here is the text of the letter for those who are curious.

"Dear incompetent Callia,

For all the chaos you attempt to sow, your efforts are in vain. One may
only hope you drown in the poisonous vomit you regurgitate, but in due
time. In due time. The Serenwilde will not fall victim to your insolent,
pathetic schemes and those of New Celest will gladly send you screaming
to the Fates for your trouble. You are as unskilled in manipulation as
you are in the field of combat, you insignificant worm.

May the allies of Star triumph and persevere.

It is the last line that I find of particular interest.

If this letter is from Serenwilde, then I have to ask, has Serenwilde
truly turned its back on history, and dropped to its knees for Celest?
The city which descends from the very scoundrels who released the taint,
the City who without a second thought, fed countless fae to a Demon Lord
because they thought it would help the cause of the Light, the city who
waged war on them because the concept of freedom is foreign to the
light, and thus must be squashed? If the Serenwilde has sunk so low,
then I do not need to even bother driving a wedge between Celest and
Serenwilde.

The compliancy required for such a sin against nature to occur is not
something one mortal from a foreign city can ever hope to overcome, so
instead I will watch with tear filled eyes as a forest bows to the
cities, and I will tell my children of the once mighty forest, a valiant
and stalwart foe to my home, but also a Sister, and how she turned
astray, seeking the sins of the walls.
