The Mystery of the Tar Pits

Serenwilde's relative peace on the night of Vestian 6th was spoiled by
Abeytu, Keeper of the Gardens, who shouted: Och!
Get-outta-here-you-buggery-beastie! Hecton D'Varden, as well the
Archprelate of Shrouded Mysteries, Xypher Stormcrow, ran to the
Greenhouse and witnessed the grumpy Abeytu batting away a curious
creature: a blob of slime that decayed all plantlife it touched.
Questions were asked later, as Abeytu pleaded to kill the creature now,
and when it was done, none understood what it was. Soon, Ashke and
Lilian of the Moondancers of the Moondancers, Vasnier and Lynn Zayah,
and Xiran L'Eternae appeared and begged for information. But the the
Keeper knew nothing -- the creature appeared from no apparent source.

The Seren spoke to other residents of the forest, Bandrui, Isotta,
Tokota, and even the Spirit of the Moonhart, Miakoda. None knew of these
slimes, but Miakoda whispered it was an ill omen, and sure enough, it
was.

The slimes attacked again, but this time in greater number. Assailing
not just the Serenwilde, the creatures took to the Ackleberry and
Alabaster Highway, along with Verasavir Valley. The Serenwilde were
quick to dispatch the threat and again looked to their residents for
insight. It was Miakoda who spoke up first, who murmured that something
seemed so very familiar. When Vasnier Zayah then spoke to Dain, he too
mentioned a familiarity -- as if he heard of them before. Perhaps the
greatest stride made was the Moon Coven, who led by Moon Priestess
Ridien and Ileira, learned from a short communion with the Moon Spirit
that these slimes were something of an ancient enemy. Little else,
however, was made known, and the Coven was told to hold to their duty
and watch the fae.

A third siege of slimes attacked Serenwilde and the surrounding area,
but that was not the only places attacked. Faethorn would that it was
being invaded by tendrils of slime and a gigantic blob had slowly worked
to consume everything in its path within Serenwilde. Glomdoring came
into knowledge of these invading creatures and worked with Serenwilde,
to cut their path to Maeve, the Queen of the Fae. Queen Maeve explained
that she experienced these beasts before, and mentioned that she tasked
"him" to deal with them a long time ago. Meanwhile, it was Ileira who
took to speaking to Albion, First of Crones, who told her to speak with
spirits of the past, which lead to her to summon the Chuchip, Great
Spirit of the Seren.

As it turned out, it was Chuchip who was tasked by Maeve to deal with
these slime creatures. Long ago, it was explained, the Serenwilde was
much larger - however, an vile creature known as the Slaghora'ruin, or
Slayer of Forests in the fae tongue, came from beyond the Basin and
ravaged this place. Chuchip gathered several druid families to fight
and, eventually slay, the Slaghora'ruin, yet that would not come to
pass. The families told Chuchip to seal off Eastern Serenwilde, and with
the blessings of the High Priestess at the time, and Queen Maeve, it was
done. Now that the Slayer of Forests has grown strong enough to pierce
his magic, Chuchip agreed to reveal the Tar Pit Wastes to mortal
perception, that is, if they could provide him something he left behind
ages ago: his sickle.

As Chuchip explained this to the Serenwilde, Maeve explained this to
Glomdoring, who quickly went to the Hifarae Hills and procured the
sickle. They would not give it up, however, and it took much coaxing by
Lehki Talnara before they handed it over. Once Chuchip received his
sickle again, he shattered the magic and revealed the Tar Pit Wastes
once again.

Glomdoring, Serenwilde, and even a strangely-interested Hallifax quickly
ran to where the magic dissipated, just north of Verasavir Valley. They
found the descendants of the druid families, led by Jayant Thornleaf,
still in their war against the Slaghora'ruin, as well as the insane
Cyarun Thornleaf who had become a servant to the Slayer of Forests.
Worry spread among the people that the Slaghora'ruin was a
Soulless-beast of some kind, and everyone quickly agreed to not assist
Cyarun and his mad schemes in any capacity. Jayant explained to the
adventurers that he had a ritual conclave planned to contain the beast
for a time -- knowing full and well that they may not be able to kill
the Slaghora'ruin truly. The adventurers quickly assisted with Jayant's
ritual, and it was Xenthos An'Ryshe who would cunningly earn the honours
of being the first to help contain the Slaghora'ruin. When that was
done, it became apparent that the invading forces of Faethorn
disappeared, and a calm returned to Serenwilde who suffered the brunt of
the Prime invasion force.

Jayant, happy for everything that was done, told the adventurers his
fellows had little to give, but he prized them with gold sovereigns
which Xenthos kindly shared with all who aided.

As always, questions still remained by everyone involved: what exactly
is the Slaghora'ruin and why did it come to the Basin? Why did it attack
Faethorn? However, the questions murmured by Serenwilde were perhaps
more interesting: what other mysteries have the ancestors hidden for us
to reveal?
