The Tainting of the Fae, Conclusion

It became known that the Magnagorans were tainting fae through the Demon
Lord Gorgulu, the Devourer of Souls, through the parts of the Moon
Spirit trapped within him. A few more fae were kidnapped and processed
through Gorgulu, more tainted fae emerged. The more the Demon Lord was
fed, the more the tainted fae multiplied. But Serenwilde kept the
defenses of Faethorn up and prevented many fae from being kidnapped. As
Gorgulu became hungrier, the portion of Moon Spirit in him became
stronger, giving birth to a twisted intelligence bent on feeding itself.
As Magnagora was not able to keep it fed with fresh fae, strange plants
began infesting the demonic plane. Serenwilde managed to relight the
Flame of Glinshari which prevented the tainted fae from entering the
Basin.

It was at this time that the Nihilists began to become concerned that
the experiment was not evolving in a manner advantageous to their
interests. When Gorgulu broke free from the Demon Lords of Nil, even the
other Demon Lords began to worry. Ashtorath, the Duke of Damnation,
hoped to ally with this changed Gorgulu and tried to seek an alliance to
overthrow Luciphage as has always been his dream, but he was devoured by
Gorgulu. Then, Nifilhema, the Queen of Cruelty, thought to embrace her
one-time mate, and she too was devoured. At this time, the two remaining
Demon Lords, Supreme Master Luciphage and the insubstantial Baalphegar,
went from concerned to alarmed. Meanwhile, as the Demon Lords were
consumed, the outbreak of tainted fae returned to the Basin with a
vengeance. Hundreds began appearing in a great wave, tainting the land
and sending rivers of power into the Megalith of Doom.

However, with the Demon Lords dying, the Nihilists could not find joy in
this windfall of power as their powers dwindled. With growing horror and
through the advise of the remaining powers of Nil, they realized in
horror that combining the dark cosmic powers of Nil with the etheric
powers of nature was causing a catostrophe of epic proportions.
Meanwhile, the seemingly unstoppable infestation of tainted fae and the
cries of the Moon Avatars were likewise sending the Serenwilde into a
panic.

What had to be done was obvious, the Moon Spirit within Gorgulu had to
be removed and the only possible way was by destroying him. However,he
had seeped deep into the depths of Nil and was hidden from mortal sight.
Only the combined powers of the Nihilists and Moondancers could summon
him forth, who had been at war throughout the past year over the
summoning and empowering of Crow.

What a bitter and ironic pill both sides had to swallow! Many in
Magnagora did not want such an alliance, most especially Marquis Valek
Feyranti, whose recent insanity from his long efforts to see this
experiment come to completion was plain for all to see when he struck
out at his closest friends, and now raged against the idea. But
shrugging aside his hubris, the Heresiarch of the Nihilists, Count Brona
Feyranti, along with his trustworthy aide, Bricriu, bravely travelled to
Serenwilde to propose an alliance in this endeavor against Gorgulu.
Speaking with Marshall Gregori, Merloch, Niara and other leaders of the
Seren, they worked out an arrangement to destroy Gorgulu and allow Lord
Luciphage to restore him to his former self.

Dozens upon dozens of Nihilists and Moondancers gathered, together with
their allies of the Seren and Magnagora, to enact the ritual. But just
as they were about to summon forth Gorgulu, the ritual was interrupted
by treachery from within by none other than Emperor Daevos Feyranti
himself! The Emperor of Magnagora, along with his stooge, Ravin the
Geomancer, not wanting the power they received through the tainted fae
to end, attacked the ritualists in a daring though misguided ambush. As
the ritualists scattered, Gorgulu briefly manifested and chaos ensued.
Luciphage, the Supreme Master of Nil, was not pleased and sent his
archdemons out in a vengeful rage against Daevos, Ravin and their
cohorts.

After this fiasco, Serenwilde rightfully felt betrayed and Magnagora was
thrown into roiling inner turmoil. In the end however, the Nihilists and
Moondancers re-did their ritual, and this time it was a success! Gorgulu
was not an easy adversary, however, easily destroying the covens sent
against it as well as the many who had gathered. In the end and at great
cost, Gorgulu was defeated, dropping the bodies of Ashtorath and
Nifilhema, and freeing the essence of the Moon Spirit trapped within
him. With the essence of the Moon Spirit returned, the Moon Avatars
began to heal, remarkably becoming more powerful than they were before.
Meanwhile, Supreme Master Luciphage was able to restore all three Demon
Lords. The Nihilists found that Gorgulu was slightly changed from his
ordeal and went into seclusion to study the ramifications. Several
tainted fae remain, but the forces of New Celest and Serenwilde are
hunting them to extinction and no new ones are being created.

Thus ends the saga of the Tainting of the Fae, a hard and heartfelt
lesson on what happens when cosmic and nature magics, each anethema to
the other, merge together with unexpected and unstable results.
