Changelings who assume a mortal race

Trooper,

I was not speaking of you, though I am gladdened to see that the Elfen
peoples are more populous than I had thought. No, I spoke instead of one
of the Crafters of Cliffs that lead the Geomantic Mages.

I do not doubt that your true essence may be that of a changeling, but
as I understand the ways of your race, there is no deceit or mimicry in
your assumption of a mortal race. It is no illusion, but instead you
inhabit the body of a Faeling or Elfen, with all their wondrous
connections to the living world intact. Is it not true that even as a
changeling, you are healed and sustained by your bond to the deep forest
when you become a Faeling? Is it not true that your spirit soars with
the beauty and eloquence of the Fae, while your body resumes a more
perfect stature?

No, there is no distinction between a changeling who chooses to walk as
a Faeling, and a Faeling by blood, except that the changeling at some
later stage may lamentably cast off their current form. To say that
changelings in whatever form are accepted by the Magnagoran elite is
equally wonderful news. Why, as long as one possesses a sacred dagger of
reincarnation, all Elfen should be welcomed with open arms, for they too
have the power to change their form when they choose!

Alas, I fear that even a changeling who deliberately chooses to assume
the mortal frame of an Elfen, with all the advantages and disadvantages
therein, will still be persecuted for that choice, even though there is
no reason for it. They may gain some small measure of comfort however
from the knowledge that their children will be welcomed into the service
of the Taint, provided they have the blessings of Nature upon them.

A most baffling puzzle, but perhaps there is someone from the Magnagoran
leadership who could explain.

From the deep forest,
Elryn Greythane.

Penned by my hand on the 11th of Tzarin, in the year 141 CE.
