Follies of the Light

Greetings, Morik.
Your post in response to me accused me of 'misunderstanding' you, but
your words and the words of your citymates have clearly shown that I
understood you perfectly. You said that you do all the same things we
do, but that you do not enjoy them - you do them because they are the
Right Things To Do. Well, Morik, here you highlighted the fundamental
difference between our cultures. We do not feel obligated to hate
ourselves for doing what we deem to be necessary. We do not feel
compelled to hide behind narrow-minded concepts of right and wrong that
have no place in an enlightened society. We do not feel the need to
pretend that everything we do is done with the blessing of some
benevolent higher power. It is not how you justify your actions that is
important - it is the actions themselves. You can say that you kill in
the name of the Light, you can pass off slaughter as justice, you can
claim that the brutality you exhibit towards the Taint is a painful
necessity - but as always, actions speak louder than words.
Our two cultures employ many of the same methods in resolving our
conflicts and dealing with those who wrong us. The only difference is
that we are no longer blinded by the Light - it is enough for us to
simply understand that concepts of Good and Evil must take a back seat
to logic and necessity. The sooner you understand that, the sooner you
will find your hypocritical moral high ground vanishing beneath your
feet.
Before you and your city can stop lying to us you must first stop lying
to yourselves.
Respectfully,
Ashar d'Valeros
