Disturbing Rumours

Greetings,

I'm quite tired of dealing with the people that believe in rumours based
on one side alone. It's a frightening indulgence of ignorance that the
unworthy freely bathe in. Forgive me if I interrupt this squalor, but
the truth should be shed and scorch your heathen skins.

I once was a part of the forest of Serenwilde, a place that so reeks of
hypocrites and assinine twits that I found myself leaving shortly after
the illustrous Commune had ostracized my husband (the ONLY defender in
the whole forest who would set traps and defend consistently) for
kicking someone awake. That's right. It was so unthinkable a thing to
kick someone awake, after they had imposed themselves into a
conversation by dancing on moonbeams, and promptly falling asleep
thereafter. The hoofed God Charune even thought to call him an
Oathbreaker personally for such an uncouth act.

The biggest hyocrite of all, Kalodan, was most astute in dictating how
devastating a blow this was to Serenwilde. I need not list Kalodan's
treasons, I'm sure even the daydreamers in the Moonhart Circle are aware
of them as they sagely nodded their heads to his seemingly-wise words of
prosecution and justice.

Worry not, there's a reason to my rambling.

During this time, I was a tailor. I used keep my Inn well stocked with
many goodies, some of which included enchantments. I needed a dependable
jeweler that could constantly provide me with the jewelry necessary to
maintain the enchantment stock. In the end, I chose Aia, as she seemed
to be of a cheerful disposition and lacked the general hypocrisy that
haunts Serenwilde. She also seemed somewhat trustable.

As with all people I deal with frequently, I demanded a list of goods
that I may choose from at my leisure, a pricelist as I like to call it.
Aia claimed that she was already writing a book that listed her wares. A
few months after this proclamation, she found out she had another book
that seemed to magically write in itself for everything she wrote in the
parent book. This was wonderful news. She gave me this book and asked me
to shelve it in my library, so that when people browsed it, they would
see the book with her wares and might check it out. I agreed to this.

The book was dissapointingly bare, giving only a brief list of a
design's appearance and what cartel that design belonged to. Not the
pricelist I requested, but I nodded graciously to myself. While not what
I asked for, it would have to do, I had already given my word that I
would purchase jewelry from her in exchange for this list.

And indeed, I had made quite the large order. So large, it surpassed
200,000 gold sovereigns I believe.

Well, not long after this I got fed up with Serenwilde, and Kalodan in
particular, and left. I went to Magnagora, for that was where my parents
were and figured that I could built a stronger relationship with them if
I came over. Unfortunately, the politics are worse in Magnagora then
they are in Serenwilde. I was executed twice, ousted, then enemied
because I had told Revan and Synl too often that they were both idiots.

That treatment sound familiar? Maybe you'll recall Neuf's previous post
that listed similar actions that would be taken against Crylia if she
did not join Revan's incestuous brood. Do you still kiss your daughter
Revan, and wish she were your wife?

At this time, I was a jeweler and a member Aia's private cartel no less!
Since I was a jeweler, I did not need Aia's assistance any longer.
Rather she became dependant on me for use of my jeweler's hammer. I was
more then content to lend it to her, she was, after all, a friend. So I
thought. One fateful day, however, I was busy. I was hunting and was not
able to give the hammer to her. We had the shortest argument ever, and
then she snubbed me. I died, of course, while we were arguing and I
think she enjoyed that.

It is now several years later. Aia suddenly sends me a tell saying, give
me my book back you thief! Well, I'm outraged. No apology or anything,
she comes right out and demands something back that was partially paid
for. I don't think many jewelers can claim they've done an order for
200,000+ golds. Nope. No apology for creating an argument that led me to
me death, because she was throwing a fit over not being able to borrow a
jeweler's hammer. Then she has the gall to threaten me and attack me in
my Inn. My Inn has a no violence policy, and thus is open to all who
follows this rule. Aia blithely ignored this rule and was banned from
the manse. She was also killed by my fellow commune mates, and for that
I am grateful. I am not a fighter, being too absent-minded and impatient
to be able to kill efficiently and I was amazed at the quick reaction of
my comrades.

I felt bad, however, after she was killed twice. Though her arrogance
had brought that upon herself, my pride and indigence likely had some
part in it. So after cooling down on my part, I offered to return her
gift back to her if she was willing to die for it. It wasn't a very
informative piece, and it wouldn't cost me anything to be rid of it.

She responded by snubbing me once again, and writing the title of the
book as 'Kharaen is a thief.'

Just so people understand, copies of books cannot be stolen. It wasn't a
magic book, as I was later informed, but simply a copy of the original.
Furthermore, I offered the return of the gift after Aia died in partial
reconciliation.

I am no thief, and people who have been using this as an excuse to rob
my manse several times have done so in ignorance. I am certainly
disagreable, likely the most disagreable person in the Basin since my
husband has fallen into eternal slumber, but I am no thief. If Aia wants
her boring book back, she can give me an apology and not demand it back.
There likely wouldn't have been all this fuss if she had been civil from
the get go.

Reigning Sister, Kharaen d'Attai.

Penned by my hand on the 7th of Kiani, in the year 189 CE.
