The Tragedy of Hifarae and Return of a Goddess

It began with dreams among the people of Serenwilde, strange visions of
ancient prophecies, images of evil befalling Moon's Avatars, and sounds
of dark creatures growling in crimson mist. At first they were not taken
seriously, but gradually the dreams began to come to life as dark,
growling creatures appeared on the Alabaster Road, attacking on sight
and killing the unprepared. Alarmed, the Seren sought prophecy from
Chuchip, a great ancestral spirit of the forest.

Chuchip spoke a mysterious rhyme, of Silver's weakening and twisted ones
breaking free, and of calling one who was the united of Three. Worried
by the former part of the prophecy, Serens set up guard at the Moon
Avatars in Etherwilde, and forbid outsiders from entrance into the
ethereal forest.

Matters only worsened when the Avatars of Moon suddenly fell sick, to
the alarm of all in Serenwilde. Desperate and worried, the Moondancers
led Serens in a ritual to call down the Great Spirit of Mother Moon,
hoping that she would be able to help the Avatars, or shed some light on
their condition. To their surprise, the weakened Moon Spirit simply
urged them to seek instead her Awakener, Lady Lisaera, admitting her own
inability to heal the Avatars, since they are part of herself.

Soon after Moon Spirit departed from Moon Tower, the voice of a strange
hag named Gromagh resounded across the Basin, declaring her claim over
it. With that voice came the sound of many growls and rushing feet, as
wave after wave of dark creatures rushed onto the Alabaster Road,
preying upon the unaware, to the rising grief of Serenwilde.

At the same time, Serens received information from Hinagar, Lisaera's
wolfish companion, that Lisaera had left in Her fulcrux a beacon that
could call Her back from the Void in direst need. Desperately, Seren
began collecting the materials and the essence to unlock the beacon, to
the alarm of the two cities, who warily guarded their elemental planes,
which were scoured for essence by the forest dwellers.

Soon, a silver sapling grew up in Lisaera's fulcrux out of the
collective efforts of the the Seren, and the sapling continually sent
beams of energy into the Void, as it was nourished unceasingly with
essence. After the silver sapling pulsed for many days, a dazzling rift
opened in the skies above the Basin of Life, out from which Lisaera, the
Hallowed Crone, emerged in great haste. The mysterious Gromagh shouted
again in defiance, sending hundreds of her children to swarm the shining
form of Lisaera. Fain, of the Red Masque also took this occasion to
appear, mocking and attacking the already Void-weakened Lisaera.

Terentia and Charune rushed to the aid of Lisaera, trying their best to
drive Fain back, while Viravain watched on with amusement at a distance.
Fain retreated amid crimson laughter, leaving Charune to catch a
collapsing Lisaera and carry Her to Her fulcrux, where She remained to
rest from Her injuries.

Concerned at this new turn of events, Serenwilde waited worriedly for
the recovery of Lady Lisaera when a strange centaur appeared in the
forest, seeking help against the 'fiends' that have invaded his home.
Following the centaur revealed the Hifarae hills west of the Serenwilde,
which were hitherto concealed by a protective Veil that was raised by
Chuchip himself when he was still alive.

The creature Gromagh was found to live in these hills, and by her own
confessions, she revealed her origin as coming from the severed heads of
a maiden, mother and crone which was grafted onto Gorgulu from the slain
bodies of the Avatars of Moon during the misguided experiments to taint
the fae. When Gorgulu was finally defeated, the heads broke off and
maintained their own blasphemous consciousness, eventually merging
together into Gromagh. It was she who broke the sacred Veil over
Hifarae, and she who sent her hordes of spawn onto the Alabaster Road,
claiming sovereignty over the Basin of Life as she styled herself the
queen of the fae.

Led by the relentless Kalodan Faechild, the Seren managed to slay
Gromagh, and once more seal her spawn behind the raised Veil with the
help of the centaurs.

When Lisaera awoke from Her rest some days later , She rushed
immediately to restore the Moon Avatars with what little strength She
had, having been buoyed byhealing essence from Ayridion. Bestowing Her
ethereal essence to the Avatars, Lisaera brought them back to fullness,
declaring after examination that Gromagh had completely relinquished her
hold on the Moon essence she had possessed, having used it all in her
grand attempt to overrun the Basin. It was Gromagh's capture and use of
this essence that had made the Avatars sick.

With Lisaera's return and the sealing of the horde, life returns to
normal again in the Basin of Life, fraught as always with its daily joys
and strife. A gladdened Serenwilde welcomes Lisaera with open arms,
restoring again to the northern forest the Awakener of its Great Spirit,
Mother Moon. Only time will tell what the return of the Silver Goddess
portends, and whether the spawn of Gromagh will break forth again to
plague the Basin of Life.
