Return of the Dark Spirits

Years ago, though not so many that memories have grown weak and brittle,
the Serenwilde Forest sat perched on the edge of destruction at the
hands of their own past mistakes. Dark spirits had risen up from
Serenwilde's history, previously trapped within the forest and sealed
away by powerful forces, their presence unknown and forgotten for ages.
The spirits, as previously written, had managed to break free of their
trappings and slowly infected each corner of Serenwilde, causing
destruction, death, and chaos to spread through the great forest.

Serenwilde ended up beseeching their enemy Glomdoring to take the dark
spirits to the great forest to the south. Glomdoring, seeing this is an
opportunity to strike a blow against Serenwilde and gain the upper hand,
made demands before accepting the spirits. Thus, the Oath was made to
remove the dark spirits from the forest . Unbeknownst to even the gods,
the confluence between karmic ties and spiritual reverberations that
surrounded the lost spirits bound them to this Oath by the Fates
themselves.

In the years following Charune, the Horned One's return to the Basin of
Life and White Hart's resurrection, Serenwilde settled into a time of
rediscovery, learning of their new Lord's teachings and of how White
Hart came to be. Several years passed in relative silence and calm
between the Serenwilde and Glomdoring to the south, though small
skirmishes were to be seen and heard between the two. Quiet whisperings
echoed through the Serenwilde of the unfairness of the oath they were
forced to take under the duress of losing a much loved Great Spirit.
Over months, these whisperings grew to a dull roar, finally reaching the
ears of Charune who understood their suffering and released them of
their oath.

A public announcement was made, some months later by Seneschal Nejii
Talnara of the Serenwilde, that the oath agreed upon by both forests was
no longer in effect. This announcement came as no surprise to
Glomdoring, for several past agreements between the two forests had been
broken in their eyes by the Serenwilde. Though this one was different,
for the ever observant Grutina had heard it made and heard the dire
consequences promised should Serenwilde break its oath to Glomdoring. As
the months passed, Serenwilde's unease at their decision lessened, for
the spirits had not returned to their forest as promised, though this
ease and relative calm was not to last.

In the month of Avechary, 152 years after the Coming of Estarra, dark
figures were seen to rise up into the sky high above the canopy of
Glomdoring, and vanish into the morning rays of Father Sun. Shortly
after this first event was witnessed within the forest, fires broke out
within Serenwilde in all areas of the forest, growing stronger and more
frequent as time passed. The Glomdoring forest was not without its own
troubles though as their Great Spirits grew angry and distressed about
the spirits leaving the forest. As the days wore on and both forests
suffered from the spirits, meetings eventually took place between the
two nations councils. Eventually, although not easily agreed upon, it
was decided the best course of action was to have the spirits return to
the Glomdoring. As the spirits returned the Seren breathed a sigh of
relief, many showing their misgivings about the spirits being returned,
but many more happy to just be rid of them.

What will happen now that the spirits are returned to the Glomdoring?
What secrets can those of the southern forest learn from Grutina and her
cohorts? Will Serenwilde ever be truly free of their enemy? Only time
can tell...

Penned by My hand on the 25th of Avechary, in the year 152 CE.
