A Divine Skirmish

It began as little more than whispers in the branches of the Serenwilde
and Glomdoring forests, a sense of urgency, excitement and danger.
Prompted by the wise Ridien, Serenwilde searched out the foresight of
the Lake Spirit while Glomdoring sought the wisdom of Grandmother
Scorpion. Both gave dire warning; Lake speaking of a moonlit child who
would die within a year if not rescued while Scorpion warned of a great
blight upon the Wyrd if a child was not killed.

Around the same time there were rumours of a wandering family near the
Serenwilde; a man, his wife and an infant child. They were finally
discovered on the northwestern outskirts of the forest, and while the
woman seemed relieved at the thought of a place to rest, her husband was
hesitant to even pause to speak, let alone accept aid from the forest
folk. Before more could be found out, however, a crow passed low
overhead with an ominous caw. Kalas Alianna desperately tried to
convince the family to come to safety, knowing that Glomdoring would
soon arrive. Unfortunately, before they could be convinced, a band from
Glomdoring swooped in, scaring them off.

While the Serenwilde searched for the family once more, the Glomdoring
made their own preparations to prevent Scorpion's prophesy from coming
to fruition. With a blade specially prepared by Nocht, the Silent,
Xenthos An'Ryshe stalked the family, finally discovering them within the
Hifarae Hills. They could barely cry out before he ran the blade through
the father, Karnnur, killing him and wounding Kavindra, the mother.
Before he could end the life of the child, however, a brilliant flash of
light erupted, spiriting the infant away to safety. Kavindra accepted
healing from the Serenwilde, but insisted upon leaving to find her
missing child.

As time passed, it was soon discovered that Maylea, Bloom of Serenity
had saved the child from a gruesome fate. Furious at Her intervention,
Nocht, the Silent opened up a fissure within His realm to infiltrate the
Elder Goddess' own, releasing a horde of vicious redcaps upon Her
domain. In return, Maylea unleashed a wave of sprites in His realm. Both
the Serenwilde and Glomdoring worked tirelessly to use the corpses of
each to open and close the portal respectively. Eventually, it was
Glomdoring that won out and with the fissure open they poured into the
Bloom of Serenity's realm. It was Sidd, of Glomdoring, that finally
retrieved the mirror the infant had been hidden within, returning it to
Nocht.

The Bloom of Serenity would not be so easily thwarted, however, for
though the child was out of Her hands, Nocht found that He could not
reach the baby slumbering within the mirror. Both of them set their
followers upon gathering a great number of creatures from around the
Basin of Life, and when Nocht called for a meeting to break their
stalemate, both were ready to act. Maylea presented a poisoned tea in
memory of more peaceful times, and the Silent Lord drank, not expecting
the ruse. Realising the trick, Nocht brought forth an amulet that melted
the eyes of Maylea, leaving Her helpless - or so they believed.

To the astonishment of the Serenwilde, after being led to Her temple by
Gabriella Talnara, Maylea immediately healed Herself with the Eye of
Dynara, and left to find Kavindra before the followers of Nocht could
cure the poison. Indeed, the mother was found only moments before a
second meeting was called between the two Gods. This time Hoaracle stood
at Maylea's side as She did something most unexpected. She traded the
Eye for both the child and a promise that Nocht would not interfere in
the child's growth or well-being. Though the Silent Lord agreed, He only
promised to abstain from affecting her physically.

Both parties left the meeting satisfied, for Nocht bore one of the most
powerful artifacts of the Gods, and Maylea the life of a child blessed
by Mother Moon herself, now named Allessa. What these happenings mean
for the communes of Glomdoring and Serenwilde few can guess.

Penned by My hand on the 6th of Avechary, in the year 276 CE.
