Of Gods and Mortals

Much time passed as the creatures continued to ravage the cities and
communes, before a strange occurance began. In a weaker form, Eventru,
Crown of the Exalted appeared on the Elemental Plane of Water, battling
against the bloated starsuckers, seeking respite with those of New
Celest. Though claiming to be better, His memory seemed at a great loss,
unable to recognize any of those about Him, even though some of His
devout were among those protecting the plane. Likewise in Serenwilde the
Silver Goddess reappeared, though similarly plagued by an empty memory
and a weakness of being that did not go unnoticed by those of the
Serenwilde Forest. In various places about the Basin of Life the Elder
Gods began to return, weaker and in lesser form yet certain of their
identity.

In the city of Magnagora the Red Masque returned, though not going
unnoticed. It did not take long for Him to attack and devour the waiting
Voice of Jagrerox, leading Magnagora to ending His life quickly. Shock
ran through Magnagora as they realized the one that had patroned their
city was weak, readily dispatched by a group of mortals and demigods.
Weak and failing, the Voice of Jagrerox was freed, though still bleeding
essence and not believed to be long for the First World. Alarmed, the
Cacophony of Magnagora began to work on a ritual to call the Midnight
Violin of Jagrerox, left abandoned after Malarious d'Murani left the
city for the Glomdoring Forest. Once retrieved, the ancient instrument
was returned to the Voice, and so, feasting upon its essence and His
latent divine energy imbibed in it, the Voice of Jagrerox recovered,
though His instrument was decimated in the process, drained of the
essence that bound it.

Many clashes between the weakened Elder Gods struck about the Basin of
Life, as Lisaera, the Silver Goddess and Fain, of the Red Masque did
battle in Rockholm while the village itself revolted and Magnagora and
Serenwilde vied for the lives of the miners that dwelt within. Many
wondered as to their strange behaviour, like them but unlike - whispers
ran among the mortal populace as they watched and listened, wondering as
to the strange demands by the Elder Gods, who sought the Verses of
Magnora with a fixation unrivaled by even their mortal counterparts.
Many began to doubt the Gods, and even those of the Serenwilde took arms
against them, defending Gregori Mes'ard from the Silver Goddess's wrath,
striking down Her weakened form.

The odd behaviour began to culminate as other gods made their way forth
- Lyreth, the Sidereal Prince was found in the city of New Celest,
singing for the Crown of the Exalted in the city's park. Shikari, the
Predator was found in Glomdoring, rapidly cutting through a swathe of
nightmarish creatures assaulting the Black Tower, scaling the side of
the building to find Rowena Nightshade and much of the Glomdoring
embattled for their lives. Auseklis, the Wanderer was seen stalking the
Serenwilde Forest, decrying the loss of His sister, Lisaera. Raezon, the
Forbidden was spotted in Magnagora and quickly slain by the citizens of
the tainted city.

As the Sidereal Prince was often seen roaming the city, one of His
former followers, Doman Nahara, came upon Him - it quickly developed
into an irrational screaming match, ending with Lyreth slaying the
cantor. As the power of the Pool of Stars reformed Doman's body, he
strangely found a second Lyreth waiting - and soon, there were two
standing at the Pool of Stars, arguing over who was the real Lyreth. It
was not long before a second and third appeared, and New Celest quickly
found themselves outnumbered. Despite the odds, they did put an end to
each of them, with the assistance of Serenwilde, and even Xenthos of the
Glomdoring.

Days would pass, but soon Serenwilde as well would be likewise plagued -
after attempts by Lisaera and Maylea to force Asmodea, Regent of the
Serenwilde to surrender the Verses of Magnora had failed, including even
tricks of domination by the Silver Goddess, they began an attack upon
the forest - Lisaera had declared Herself Regent, taking up arms among
the crystal shards near the tree gifted to Her by the Huntsman, Charune.
Maylea joined Her, demanding the Serenwilde grovel and serve the Regent
Lisaera - and soon there were two Mayleas, and three Lisaeras. The
Huntsman quickly joined His companions in this fight, and there were two
of Him, taking aim at the forest and their celestian friends who had
come to assist them. It took three great fights but finally the combined
efforts of the Serenwilde and New Celest were able to dispatch the Elder
Gods, only one Charune escaping with His life.

In the Glomdoring Forest, Viravain and Nocht appeared, joined soon after
by Lyreth, eagerly seeking his childhood friend. The Glomdoring came to
find the Sidereal Prince eager to play what had quickly became His
favourite game - that of seeing who could slay the most mortals, a means
by which He had come to be known for using to determine which of the
Lyreth's was the real Lyreth. As Glomdoring quickly struck down Lyreth,
Viravain became irate, attacking those gathered - She too joined Lyreth
upon the floor, unmoving and broken.

In the city of Magnagora, rumors began to pass about of Raezon, the
Forbidden secretly gathering forces - indeed, one such rumor touched
upon Nariah d'Iasani's ears as she rushed into the Library of Dark
Fates, finding the Lady Nepthysia of the Nihilists dancing across the
floor, though her only partner appeared to be azure flames that were
quickly dissipating. After discussion ensued between them and other
Nihilists gathered, they came to a dark conclusion about the Gods they
had come to serve - and as though called by His name, several
manifestations of Morgfyre, the Legion began to appear in the library,
and each spoke at once with a thousand terrible voices.
