Exiting the Portal of Fate by Ialie

Runner Up for November 2005

Into the darkness I did step,
Abandoned memories while I wept,
Then heard someone speak my name,
I knew I'd never be the same,

"What sex are you?" I heard her ask,
While in nudity I did bask,
"I'm a girl, can't you see?"
This I answered drearily,

"Yes you're female, I can tell,
You are doing rather well,
Now I'll need to know your age,
Are you old or just teenage?"

"I think I am just sixteen,
Very mouthy but not too mean,
Annoying with my youthful guile,
But still just a juvenile,"

"Right you are, sixteen years old,
Still quite young to shape and mold,
Now let me look you in the face,
I'm not quite sure of your race."

Born to flutter, through the skies,
I looked at her with wide eyes,
Then as she touched my wings,
I whispered words of "faelings,"

"One last thing, then you go,
The guild you came from, do you know?
I shook my head and bit my lip,
"Perhaps the Aquamancers fit?"

"Water Mage sounds good to me.
One more second, I'll let you free,"
*Clack Clack clackety Click*
"The wheel is spinning we must be quick,"

Then all goes silent, all goes dark,
I start my journey, I embark,
My consciousness drifts down a stream,
I feel the rocking in my dream,

Visions of a politician,
Visions of a wild magician,
Visions of a wanderer,
Visions of a conqueror,

All these visions were of me,
And all were true potentially,
And so the fates did confide,
‘Twas up to me to decide,

Suddenly I heard the shears,
Awakening brand new fears,
A brand new pain that did abate,
As I left the Portal of Fate.
