The Woes of a Changeling by Ialie

Runner Up for August 2005

I'm a Changeling, yes I am,
The perfect form to pull a scam,
I can fool most anyone,
With the shape that I become,

The problem lies in what to take,
A month I'll pay for my mistake,
I'll hold my cameo nice and tight,
And pray the form I choose is right,

I could be a big mean cat,
Hissing spitting, how bout that?
Not to mention strong and quick,
Shame the hairballs make me sick,

A Furrikin is always fun,
In rolling games I'm number one,
Though cute as a furry ball,
I don't want to be that small,

As an Igasho I'd be big!
Snapping logs like they're twigs,
But my friends would run and hide,
If my load were that wide,

The Lucidian race is rather odd,
Descendants from some crystal God,
It's a form I'd never take,
I'm sure I'd only fall and break,

The Dracnari race is pretty neat
‘Cept I don't like the excess heat
And I'm not one for causing death
With my stinky dragon breath

I have no idea what to do,
I've only really named a few,
The choices are so far and wide,
I haven't even begun to try,

The Humans are bit too dull,
Taurians have too much gall,
The Tae'daes are rather slow,
And do Faelings ever grow?

Merians are much too proud,
A Krokani would spot me out,
An Orchlach is very scary,
And the Lobos are obscenely hairy,

An Elfen I've been before,
The feathered Trill is such a bore,
The Dwarves are extremely short,
The Viscanti is a last resort,

A Mugwump I guess I'll be,
No one would make a fool of me,
Though I'll look like a slimy frog,
I'll exchange good dialog,

So one, two, here we go,
Into a Mugwump watch me grow,
Aid me wit, Aid me reason,
Oh… Nil it's storm season.
