Outing people's alts is pratty and ugly, and makes you look childish and vindictive, as well as spiteful.

There's no justification for it beyond trying to lash out at others - certainly, by outing them you know full well it will evolve into metagaming. Particularly when it's over something 'controversial' like an epic quest. A perfect example is the post prior to this.

Now, this topic bears all the trademarks of a topic that's at it's end. So let's not continue it.

Things that your character hasn't seen before, yes. Other things should be very rusty. For example, "It's been a long time since I've been there, how might I find it again?" As I said, I'd expect you to play the character as if it really had been sleeping for all that time.

Fail...

Sorry, Xenthos but I hadn't been to crumkindivia since... the first ascension harmony event and I still knew my way to the named mobs for earth day event when I was getting the vacuum for Saran.

Unless you consider that bad rp for me to remember after so long... unsure.gif

Tweet:

I think my life will be made better if I no longer take in the vitriolic poison that lusternian tweets have become.
Everiine2010-07-24 03:30:21
Lack of Rants certainly snuck in here over time.
Unknown2010-07-24 03:31:46
Sometimes, I wish they'd bring back Lack of Rants. Things could get pretty wildly out-of-hand, but how is that different from Eventru stamping on Tweets now? Imperian and Aetolia never removed their "I hate" threads from their forums. Well, in Aetolia's case, it's called "MAD HUNGRY MAD BAD BAD ANGRY ANGRY SAD". Go figure.
Eventru2010-07-24 03:33:10
I'm getting really tired of having to police the vitriol and poison, as I have, for a very long time, been giving verbal warnings, in hopes that everyone would simply play nice.

Now, repeat offenders are simply getting post bans.
Shiri2010-07-24 03:35:11
You're right, it isn't that different, which is why they're likely to lock it if you guys can't stop yourselves turning it into lack of rants, for probably the 4th or 5th time in as many days.

EDIT: Or bans I guess.
Lehki2010-07-24 03:35:17
Yeah I never really got why the thread was removed. It's not like the thread itself was causing all the rants and anger, as we can see since tweets has basically become the new Lack of Rants. At least before it was being obvious about what the thread was.

blink.gif What kind of name is that?

Tweet: I'm so happy. Between Esano and Sylphas, I now have an awesome new tailoring tool!
Unknown2010-07-24 03:37:13
I've never claimed to understand the thread creator's line of thinking on naming it that. tongue.gif

Tweet: Cooking is soooo awesome. I'm glad I switched from Artisan. happy.gif And I love whoever designed that meat cookie for the Epicure cartel. (Even if it was Arin.)

My tweet: I just wanna say again how unbelievably awesome it is to be able to read and respond to my messages via the Iron Realms site.

Whoever decided to implement that... you are my own personal hero.
Razenth2010-07-24 03:39:46
Yeah, I love it. I can check message super easily and chat with people.
Aubrey2010-07-24 03:53:50

Well, by setting aside a thread specifically for rants and negativity, you endorse those things.

They're going to happen anyway, but the purposeful absence of a proper place to do so discourages them somewhat, and helps to keep them under control.

It's kinda like public buildings that don't have a smoking gazebo somewhere outside. Smokers will still smoke, but they have to duck around the corner or behind some bushes to do it. If you set up a smoking gazebo, you're saying, "It's fine if you smoke, just do it in this spot" — a form of endorsement.
Shiri2010-07-24 04:12:16
The idea was that it made the forum environment toxic because everyone was more prepared to dump their rage. It didn't happen as much when people had to make threads for specific issues.

And what's wrong with that? I don't see that as a form of endorsement at all. People are going to smoke - or complain - no matter what the circumstance: by setting aside an area specifically designed to deal with these situations, you're doing no more than conceding that they occur. Lack of Rants may have (tangentially) encouraged some people with poorer self control to troll or flame more than they otherwise would've, but by removing it completely, you're doing a disservice to those individuals who used it for its legitimate purpose, to let off some steam now and then. As this very thread succintly proves, the flaming and bitching is still going to boil over. I don't think the forum is any more or less toxic than before. It's just that said toxicity has spilled over into different areas.

(It's not like my complaining matters, since the administration are clearly very firm on this stance. Further discussion on the matter is pointless and will merely consist of retreading old ground anyway. But I just want to get my view out there.)

Can't fight in revolts because almost a month after release we still do not have faecall.

Shulamit2010-07-24 04:52:34
Cups! Designing cups to commemorate revolts! Which I wasn't here for. Must finish the gold-gilded cheesecake in the ISCC...and make two more designs. Maybe some nice drinks? Hmmm...

Not quite. It's not a case of Lack of Rants being removed meaning the rants spill over elsewhere. It's a case of, by having a "post anything you want" thread people use it for rants. If people had to make threads for individual matters it'd be much easier to deal with because you can just close a thread that's gotten acidic. This is much harder with tweets/rants.
