Have you forgotten that we have an excessively bloated unemployment rate right now?
Also, I bet that person spends far more than 7k on those kids every year. Clothing, food, and don't forget college in the future. At least, if that friend's parent is at all trying to be a good parent.
Also: What about those people who bought a house this year? There's an 8k tax rebate out there just for buying a house!

For every person who really deserves wellfare, a whole bunch of them are abusing the system. And while I understand where you are coming from, the cheer amount of abuse and unnecesary rebates (not talking about a specific country or specific rebate right now) causes a lot of frustration with the people who see a shitload of money go to the state.
Also imho having a lot of children should not be rewarded.

For every person who abuses wellfare , there is a whole cadre of people who really need the support. You have your proportions reversed. Also, for every person on welfare, there's half a person who is afraid to take benefits and another half a person who cannot receive benefits, because somehow, the richest nation on Earth can't afford the same social support programs that every other civilized nation provides. The amount of fraud, abuse, largesse, and corruption in the welfare system is a pittance compared to the same corruption present in the military, which is also a much larger budget item.

It should be noted I speak from the experience as a member of one of the most socialistic countries in the world (where a single person on wellfare has 200 euros less then a starting bachelor nurse) and not as a member of the USA.
although I suppose I should have checked where Jayden is from.
Shaddus2010-02-09 04:12:57
For every person who has unemployment, there's another like myself who gets their benefits turned off because their wife leaves them and takes the car, and they can't walk 8 miles to their job, thus effectively "quitting" said job according to the state and thus losing their benefits.
Just sayin'

Hmm. Normally I can peg a non-native speaker with even a cursory glance. Sorry for making fun of your grammar and spelling! I think bilingualism is pretty awesome.

You sound like you're describing Germany, the way that my housemate describes her home country.

Belgium, but our social security system is pretty similar.

meh I may rant about people correcting my spelling, but in the end they are teaching me more then school ever did. (Although I barely passed English so I may have been a bad student)
Now if only there was a French Lusternia to help me with my second language!

Not so related note: I sometimes walk 6 miles home from work for fun and to wind down. Good for the body and mind.
Rant: wasn't able to work out today and I'm not getting a lot of sleep lately. Hate being sleep deprived.
Aoife2010-02-09 08:15:47
I would really like to go to sleep, but I have a super early flight and no one to wake me up if I don't get up with an alarm D:

Yeah... no they dont. They dont have a job. They cant spend money they dont make. None of her 7 children have graduated high school so college totally is not going to happen. Only one has even a GED.
Yeah unemployment is bad, but dont brag about getting food stamps for three years just because you can pop out babies. Hence my rage at the grocery store.
Don't get me started on the first time home buyers credit and the fact that you can deduct interest paid on your mortgage from your taxes.....

Urgh. I can't register for the SATs because they want my previous registration info.

A number of the problems in this thread are pretty serious.
Some of you need help.

Still unemployed! And I accidentally fled from a cop tonight, hopefully that doesn't come back to bite me in the ass.

Sure if they take debit cards. And I have tried to get a job, despite not really having transportation but it would seem no one is really interested in hiring a HS grad with little to no work experience. The only "jobs" i've done are working at a Haunted House (volunteer) and selling smoothies at a 3-day event. Truthfully I'm not at all surprised I'm really not having any luck at finding a job, seeing as my sister is barely clinging to her one and my brother is having a hard time finding one himself.
