Heh, I didn't realize that made it into an envoy report! We had discussed at various points (in BS sessions) warrior specializations for: shortsword/shield (centurian specialization), spear/shield (hoplite specialization), net/trident (retiarius specialization).

On the subject of useless things, there's a special kind of shield in Forging called "GreatShields" but only warriors can use them. Except why would Warriors be using shields when they've got either two one-handers or a big two-hander?
Unless this is another text error in the AB files, which wouldn't surprise me.
Also, Guardians can wear chainmail but you never see any of them walking around it.

I thought anybody could use greatshields. They can't?

Shields can give what, 20/20? Do greatshields give more? Is it possible for monks to wield a shield? Would acro's loose the benefit of dodge? I could still use one arm and my kick for hunting after all.
Razenth2010-07-14 16:25:16
Well, can't you already parry with your kata weapons? I don't see much of a point using a shield if you can.

Could it still give an added armour bonus for hunting?

I've heard shield armour doesn't help in PvE.

Anyone can wield towershields, which generally have stats of 40/40 if they are forged properly. People using regular shields are like mages going around wearing leather: there's really no point.
Shields have virtually no effect on PvE. With Trueshield, shields have wound reducing properties on various limbs, the most potent of which is on the arm with which it is wielded. Monks get deflect instead, which has trueshield like properties and reduction comparable to top end towershields, if not artifact shield runes... except they get it as a novice skill in kata.
In other words, there's no reason you should be using a shield.

This is a weird question I'm not sure how to phrase.
Are there 'invisible' denizen members of cities and guilds? Like... is it understood that the populations of organizations consist of players, NPC's, and then a slew of denizens that sometimes show up in room descriptions, but are otherwise just... there?

Follow-up: Is it reasonable to expect all or most PC's were some of those invisible denizens before going through the portal?

That's how I'd always thought of it. Before we took that trip through the Portal we were nameless nobodies in a see of insignificant people, going about their daily humdrum lives.
Jack2010-07-15 00:09:55
Well, as humdrum a life as it's possible to live being a superintelligent fishman shopkeeper, or a red-skinned, vestigially winged demon librarian.

In Lusternia, none of that is unusual enough to even comment on.

What exactly do nexus guardians do?
I've never seen/heard of them being used, and no one seems to really know when I asked around.

Well, yeah, but even the crazy crap that transcendant guildmembers can do is humdrum by Lusternian standards. "Pulling someones soul out through their chest, eh? That old chestnut."
Unknown2010-07-15 00:24:31
It seems that the people of Lusternia are very, very jaded.

Basically, they were designed to allow non-coms to partake in defense. They'd become the guardian and be able to fight. Seeing how the guardian is a NPC (technically), they'd likely be immune to afflictions, but they'd also be limited as to what they could do while piloting.
I don't think it has ever been utilized though.
QUOTE ("8.6.2 NEXUS GUARDIANS")
Guardians are a special type of non-sentient guard that must be completely
controlled by a Guild Protector or Guild Security. They can only be summoned on
non-prime planes (ethereal, elemental, cosmic). They cost 200 power per person
and will last one month.
NEXUS COMMANDS
=================
NEXUS GUARDIAN LIST
- Lists all everyone who has called a guardian, the guardians locations (if not
dismissed), and how many days left before they will decay.
NEXUS GUARDIAN CREATE
- Creates a guardian
- Costs 200 discretionary power.
- Lasts 100 days unless killed.
- Can be summoned or dismissed from any non-prime plane.
NEXUS GUARDIAN BECOME
- Player goes out of phase.
- Player can control the guardian with GUARD commands.
GUARD COMMANDS
=================
GUARD MOVE
- Move the guardian in basic directions.
- May not be moved out off the plane they were summoned.
GUARD RETURN
- Returns the guardian to the nexus they were summoned from.
GUARD LOOK
- Look through the guardian's eyes.
GUARD LOOK WHO
- Look at everyone in the room through the guardian's eyes.
GUARD TRACK
- Move the guardian to anyone within its range.
GUARD ATTACK
- Basic guardian attack.
GUARD WEB
- Guardian can cast an entanglement spell.
- Costs 1 power.
GUARD NULLIFY
- Guardian can nullify shields.
GUARD SHIELD
- Guardian can cast a shield around itself (not others).
GUARD SAY
- Guardian can speak.
GUARD EMOTE
- Guardian can emote.
GUARD CHAT
- Guardian can chat on the city/commune channel.
GUARD STATUS
- See the guardian's basic status and location.
GUARD DISMISS
- Dismisses the guardian. You can still BECOME the guardian again without having
to create another so long as the one-month timer has not expired.
NOTE: You will see who enters and exits the guardians location, as well as all
normal conversations.
NOTE: If the guardian dies, the controller of the guardian will die as well. It
is imperative to keep track of your guardian's health and try to recall it
before it dies (or you will die too). Once a guardian dies, you will have to
create a new one (and thus spend another 200 discretionary power) before you can
summon another. Remember, it is ALWAYS important to dismiss your guardian if it
is not in use.
NOTE: Guardians on their own may not be very practical or effective defenders.
In other words, guardians are not meant to replace actual player fighters when
it comes to defending against raids, etc. However, in conjunction with player
fighters, they can certainly be an effective and deadly support.

Ok, don't really know how to phrase this but, what is the different levels of wounds, for instance there's heavy, critical etc? Is there a list from lesser to worse?
