Does cotton exist in Lusternia?

I think so. I recall some cotton tailoring designs that used cloth as the commodities.

Basically. We have cloth.
Gleip2010-01-21 17:31:31
So if I include cloth in the commodity list, I can describe it as cotton, even though it's really wool?
Lendren2010-01-21 17:33:12
Cloth in the commodity list is whatever cloth you need, just like vegetables is whatever vegetable your dish needs.
Gleip2010-01-21 17:39:20
Yeah, but last time I checked, only various types of sheep provide cloth.
Anyway, that's quite spiffy. Not that it makes a huge difference, but cotton fits better in this case I'd say.

Villages provide cloth.
The only way we players can help them make more of it is by bringing them sheep (afaik), but that doesn't necessarily mean that they don't make cloth out of other things themselves as well.

In such case, provide me with a room in which cotton plants grow. Clarramore skygardens do not count. Everything is cotton up there.

I think you answered your own question

Except Clarramore is rather recent, and not a village anyway. (And... I don't think there's any actual cotton up there. Just some kind of fluffy dandelion flower)
Anyway, it was just out of curiousity, because I know that some things are just outright not allowed. Then again, all I know is outright banned is Chocolate, Vanilla and Plastic. I was curious if cotton was considred too "modern" to fit in.

Take a look at "A colourfully furnished cottage" in Tolborolla. While not actually growing, there are cotton-products written right into the room description.
(Not all of my map has room descriptions saved so I'm not sure if there are some that aren't showing up, but just because you don't actually have a room where it is labeled as growing doesn't really mean much in Lusternian terms. There's a fair bit of space "in the distance" that you see but never actually get to, such as more fields and the like.)
Edit: Also, vanilla isn't banned any more. It can be made with spices.
Gleip2010-01-21 17:55:57
Then again. You can't just say that "cocoa plants are growing over there" and point at some distance, and suddenly think chocolate will be accepted. That will forever be limited to those greedy gods. *shakefist*
Although Vanilla being allowed is groovy. Thanks for notifying me of that.

No, the difference with chocolate is that it grows in jungles and there is no jungle in current-Lusternia (even 'over there'). If we ever get Jojobo we will get chocolate. While we've tons and tons of fields, a huge range of climate, etc. And already-existing cotton products. Heh.

Cotton is not modern at all, it's been used for a long, long time before anyone knew about the Americas.
Unknown2010-01-21 18:00:09
If it's not mentioned in the trademaster helpfiles and it's not obviously modern you'll probably be okay with it.
Gleip2010-01-21 18:02:42
I was more thinking appearance actually. I know cotton's been used a long time, but it's also by many considered a modern material, because it is used so widely in current day. While Nylon, which is far more modern, people would consider to be some kind of ancient stocking material used by old women.
Edit: In my country at least. Don't know the social standing of texture in other countries.
Editedit: Also, this is a fun discussion. Thanks.

Who needs plastic when you have the all kinds of metals, an umbrella comm called 'gems', and magic?
Unknown2010-01-21 18:07:38
C-4?
Casilu2010-01-21 18:08:19
I thought rice was banned too.
