The wiki for the term sucks, but in mythology, a homunculus was a small human body animated by means of sorcery, basically. They were usually known to be twisted or malformed in some way, as if they hadn't been fully formed before being made. They were often used as forced labour/focal points for magic/stuff to put on a shelf in a jar and forget. I haven't gotten a really good look at Viravain's, but I think it's basically an animated rosebush with a young female in the middle.

Normally it's kethuru bits on the principle that the seals mainly affect kethuru and it's him we're shutting up again every year because some other soulless (illith, muud, zenos) disturbed him.

Archliches can give the lichseed to themselves and others. The first costs 10p to yourself, the second 5p each to both yourself and the target.
If you're already a lich, you can still be lichseeded, and will lich on dying as per usual.
