Ouch, that's brutal! Especially the toadcurse part!

Personally it was the confusion that always got me. Especially when they confused a heavy or main character who hit theirselves or allies for goddamn 9999 damage guaranteed.

Shiri2006-06-14 15:17:15
Yea, but confusion in Lusternia isn't so bad.
Jack2006-06-14 15:18:41
I think it'd probably translate to stupidity, if we're applying Lusternian standards to it.
EDIT: Well, a cross between paranoia, stupidity and masochism, actually. Christ, I never realized how debilitating that skill was.

They already have that! It's called skunk spray! And some denizens do it to

Hazar2006-06-14 22:04:53
Shayle keeps on having to wash me off with rain when I come back from hunting without noticing the scent...I always feel really sheepish.

ANNOUNCE NEWS #580
Date: 6/16/2006 at 21:15
From: Estarra, the Eternal
To : Everyone
Subj: Miscellaneous Updates
- Increases to stats (buffs) will now be calculated in a dramatically
different manner. Abilities, spells, and skills that increase stats give
"weights" and no longer correspond to increases to stats in a 1:1
manner. In other words, +2 strength may not necessarily give you +2, but
rather give a weight of +2 to strength. As an example, +1 to a stat
needs only a weight of +1, +2 on a stat needs a weight of 2-3, +3 on a
stat needs a weight of 4-5, etc. The maximum is now capped at +5. This
includes divine favours. The exception is size which will still be
calculated in a 1:1 manner. See HELP BUFFS. (This is experimental and
may be subject to modification in the future.)
-Dark Spirits who protect Crows will no longer make multiple attacks.
-Druid Fury, Aquamancy Maelstrom and Geomancy Pollute will no longer
break a staff or cudgel. Further, these powers will also blow through
shields.
Penned by My hand on the 8th of Estar, in the year 150 CE.

I have to say that Shadowlords now being dropped to 12 strength is a bit of an owch.

Soll2006-06-16 21:20:37
One concern that I have, however, is that things like bashing/influencing will become incredibly harder now, due to us having lower buffed levels of con, and str/int, so that may need to be monitored to some degree.
For example, my 20 charisma has just fallen to 18.

Own fault for using buffs to bash.

Soll2006-06-16 21:22:54
I bet your int will have dropped, though, which will make you bashing slower.
And most of us need buffs to bash high grounds at a decent speed. But we'll see how things turn out! At the moment, I like these changes very much. Good grounds for easier balancing. No insanely modified stats, now.

17 int, as much as before.

Racial bonuses do NOT count toward weighting, they act as base stats.

Shadowlords with bear and flex are now at 12, not 13. Hence, my statement.

Yup, good for me for always only relying on Knowledge blessing. Seems pretty hard on Warriors though.
Soll2006-06-16 21:27:09
Yes yes, I got that. I'm just saying, instead of me (possibly) having, say, 23 int to hunt with (which I've never had, I'm just saying.. Knowledge+TF+Dolphion(+2)), will now put me at 21. Which is a noticeable difference. A good one, but a big one. Warriors will take a big blow from this. Flex(+2), Gedulah(+1)/Bear(+1), Lich(+2), etc. Big change in the difference it makes.
Xenthos2006-06-16 21:27:38
Actually- why would a Shadowlord even bond to bear now? Flex will do +2-- what's the point of bear on top? I guess bear + the highmagic strength buff could pop it up to 13 for some power use, but if you're lowmagic, there's pretty much no point.
Hmm.
Hmm.
Diamante2006-06-16 21:31:27
Hardly effects me at all, but the method taken to monitor buffs will not fix the problem.
The problem was the stacking of multiple %based modifiers. I.e, Tosha, Life blessing, Astrological spheres, catacombs, truefavours, etc.
Those should have been given diminishing returns, not static stat buffs themselves.

Yay to not breaking the staff. I guess the others are good too, but the stat thing confuses me
