Back to Chronicles of the Basin.

Wondering about the background of the Soulforge. I have some cursory knowledge of the subject, but am still curious about it.

I know that:
A ) It was a Holy Celestine Empire project to somehow absorb power from the corpse of Muud beneath the Balach Swamps.
B ) The project failed and had unforeseen consequences in the swamps
C ) Raising the Soulforge generates lots of power for your org. It also begins world event level negative effects if left up too long.

So, I would love some answers to the following:
A ) What form does the Soulforge take?
B ) How was it intended to function? How does it use Muud to generate power?
C ) What kind of negative repercussions does the Soulforge inflict given time?

1.) Some kind of weird hot-air-balloon thinggum, all spiky and whatnot. Someone else probably has the actual description, but that's how it's registered in my mind.
2.) It siphons the essence of Muud. Essence -> power.
3.) Puddles of Muud-goop all over the basin that afflict with a contagious version of aurawarp

This is of course only according to my memory, which may be seriously flawed.

Thanks much. Also, ACK! at contagious Aurawarp.

FYI, the Empire never had any idea that Muud was down there (i.e., they didn't specifically discover a Soulless and think it would be a neat idea to drain its power). It wasn't until the lost tribe of humans settled in Balach ruins and later their descendants almost released Muud (via Lord of Contagion) that the Basin discovered what was going on.

Now I'm imagining someone going "Oh hey, random power source here we don't know but let's do it anyways!"
Ssaliss2011-10-18 23:41:57
Doesn't the Soulforge take power from the cities and put it in the org that raised it? That's what I thought it did, anyway... Or am I thinking of something entirely different?

I think you are thinking of the Tainted Broadcasting Center.

And here I was thinking that this was kinda Ladantine's favorite thing, what with making it to the Obviously Evil Astral Plane, then trying to absorb it's power anyway.

Who says they did? ;)

(World event idea, gogo!)
Rika2011-10-19 02:53:48
No, Ssaliss is right. It drains other cities.

This is what the third tribe dream pertains to, right?

There's some fundamentally flawed information here - some of what you 'know' I disagree with!

There's some notes and things that are involved in the Soulforge quest that should shed light on the matter.

Sounds familiar to this time that we found this goopy black stuff in the ground and decided it would make -amazing- fuel. :P

No one is gonna do the quest when it'll end up harming an ally.
Unknown2011-10-19 13:21:32
Not until Commune vs Cities pt 2!

Also, already there are quests done to hurt an enemy even though it can hurt an ally. See: Chancel quest done by Magnagora even though Hallifax holds Rockholm. So, we'll see!

The TBC makes it so only the org that raised it can gather bards (and possibly pilgrims), doesn't it?

Don't forget the propaganda!
Kiradawea2011-10-19 14:26:26
Not comparable. Soulforge is a drain upon the Nexus. Cursed suits makes visiting villages inhospitable. One is far worse than the other.
Xenthos2012-01-17 12:47:42
Errr... no. Not even close,
Unknown2012-01-17 20:45:13
Necrooooooo. Did you mean to post here?
