I thought I'd bring this up for three reasons.

1) Steam is having a 50% sale on this game for the next... about 13 hours from this post, so it's only $5.

2) I'm having difficulty getting friends/family to buy it and play with me because they already play Minecraft, or worse, because they don't want to play Minecraft. ):

3) It's just an awesome fun little game. There's some actual progression, and just exploring can be fun and rewarding.

So yeah! I'm thinking about starting a new 'hardcore' character and then building a giant tree, 'cus us druids are ALL about trees.

Wondering if anybody would be interested in this game, particularly the multiplayer.

EDIT: Nevermind, it looks like they don't make it for macs.

Man, can't beat that deal. I also recommend not passing it up. The developers offer free content updates, too.

I might be willing to give multiplayer a try. Hardcore mode sounds terrifying, though.

It's not TOO bad, since you can run back and pick up all the items you dropped. Except in the cases where you throw on some spare equipment just to reach where you dropped your better stuff and end up dieing again and now need to run to get your spares as well.

I got too used to just plowing through zombies and the corruption on my high level dude, that I kept getting face rolled trying to run around at night. ):

Double Post Fail.
Ilyarin2011-07-10 16:53:54
What do you do in it?!
Lehki2011-07-10 17:08:07
Explore the randomly generate map for materials and treasure, build whatever cool structures you feel like, fight monsters or bosses or an invading goblin army or a swarm of monsters driven crazy by the rising Blood Moon. The multiplayer has PvP for people who like that.

The community also has a bunch of maps to download, some with just cool looking stuff, others with actual challenges/obstacle courses built in.

It honestly is the same basic idea as Minecraft, but I think they've managed to pull it off better, or at least, have provided more actual content to play with.

Ooh, I didn't know about challenge maps and such. Where can I find this "community" ?
Sylphas2011-07-10 17:53:28
In its defense, Minecraft is still a beta.
Ayisdra2011-07-10 17:58:07
I brought this back a while ago (back in 1.0.4). I would be up to playing with folks.

They feature maps and guides by players on their site/dev blog, and there is also their Map Forums

Well, I don't know if they're calling it an open beta, but Terrraria is very much still in development as well.

Would you care to open up a new world/characters and just go at it, or maybe try one of the aforementioned challenge/puzzle maps? =D

Sure, I would be up for that (challenge maps sound fun.)

Okay linking a few I found featured in their dev blog. =o

This one is apparently designed for two people. Each is supposed to only use a certain set of items, and work together to get through the course.

Part 1 and Part 2 is apparently for 1-3 people.

This guy apparently did similiar types of map for minecraft that were popular? Storm the castle!

EDIT: Although now I have work in an hour, so this would be some other time, I guess. D:

It's going to be in beta forever, pretty much. Tacking on player mods isn't going to complete it for a loooong time.

I think both are equally awesome, but Terraria is the only one I own. I'm a sucker for the 2D graphics.
