Herbs, planting etc.

So I recently switched from poisons to herbs, since poisons has never made me any money ever. But looking around for herbs, I've noticed that a lot of areas which would seem to be capable of having a certain kind of herb do not have them.

Do herbs in certain places (indoors, snowy maybe, etc.) die out on their own? Or are there a -lot- of places that have been harvested down to nothing? confused.gif

I'm considering trying to replant a couple forest areas for example, like near the Taurian camp, but if they can't support plants for some reason then no reason to do it eh?

Hibernation apparently causes herbs to just die out completely in some rooms and not return once the hibernation is over.

Plus plenty of people pick them down and kill them, not caring.

Hence, Elementalism should get Nature Guard and Cosmic should get Nature Growth. *nodme*
Kiradawea2009-08-07 18:45:46
Oh, and both should be given to herbalists.

Another question... I just went to astral and walked through four or five planes, and found all of 1 sparkleberry. Does it really only grow on astral? People strip harvest them down this much?
Kiradawea2009-08-07 18:54:48
Yes and yes.

Yes and maybe. Check the AB and see if the hibernation month was recent.

For the most part the 'Harvesting it down to 1 herb per room' is just a myth used by butthurt herbalists trying to maintain old Oakstone legends from Achaea. So long as the herb is in the room it will grow, in my experience.
Kiradawea2009-08-07 18:56:45
I thought that with the Nature Domoth, Sparkleberry was the one herb that was always kept out of dormancy. Did they change that?
Unknown2009-08-07 18:59:57
It's Dvarsh. Sparkleberry is hibernating now.

And, contrary to popular belief, hibernation kills way more herbs than the so-called "strip harvesters." The biggest problem today is that so few people care to, or know how to, replant the herbs.

In Glom's ghelp herblore, it lists Dvarsh as the hibernation month for sparkleberry, which happens to be this month in game. I was getting worried there, I thought I'd be stuck attempting to replant astral from the room with 1 sparkleberry in it, lol.

It's impossible for any herb to disappear completely, thanks to the early days when people actually made that happen, but that doesn't mean it's easy to find the herbs to harvest and/or replant.
Talan2009-08-07 23:03:17
Actually, I have seen this happen a couple of times, where there are literally none of a given herb to be found, to merbloom in particular. That's when you need to grab an ecologist with HerbRenewal. Costly skill though!

It's not impossible. There is a time after hibernation when there is a chance for the herb to pop up in a room, and then it will grow from there and can be used to replant. Strip harvesters can and have killed herbs off until herbrenewal is used, though.

That's why we need to incentivize herb planting...

There is an incentive.

You plant it so that you have herbs to harvest later, and then sell!

What we really need is the option for a second tradeskill (1 cartel skill, 1 non-cartel skill).

I meant that it's impossible to permanently destroy a plant's livelihood through "overharvesting."

I sometimes get sick of people whining about other herbalist strip harvesting. Most of these offenders are just kids who don't know any better yet. I do just fine with replanting a few rooms at a time here and there, so it doesn't get too tiresome. And, some of these ambitious types really should only pick enough to fill their rift and/or shop rift, not 20,000 coltsfoot. biggrin.gif

One day, I want to get an herbalist and an aetherpilot and have them flash between Prime and the swamp bubbles, hopefully transplanting swamp herbs. Would be even better if they had the transplanar contrivances, but seriously, who bought the Cankermore one?
Esano2009-08-08 02:42:28
Veyrzhul has them all, even the Tree of Trees one.

You can't plant on aetherbubbles.
