Back to Meet and Greet.

Alright, I recently moved out here with my fiancee and a friend or mine, we're both rooming in this lovely little two bedroom/two bath apartment.

Now, the ultimate question....

Who lives in the area? I happen to reside in the Littleton area, which I believe is outside of Denver. What's fun is when it's pitch black outside and all you see to one side is Denver's lights....

Who else, lives in the land of the perpetually cold?

Witchita is close enough. Although word of advice.. get out while you still can! The midwest is this huge black hole you want nothing to do with.
Isluna2008-05-18 07:49:06
Rather like the mid-west thank you. I have traveled all over the west and have found wonderful perks in each little town I have been in. Lebo KS is where most my mothers family hails from. All four or so blocks of it.

And to you, Jasato welcome to Colorado, and welcome to being taxed to death! Make sure you vist things around about Denver, and the new mouse trap looks to be a fun drive. I would say I am around-ish two hours northeast of you. And if you like hiking, take the Tooth on some time, lovely walk, the view is just beautiful.

Seriously? you think this is bad? Try Kerrville Texas. That, undoubtably is a cesspool that manages to pull in even the most prominent person and drag them into nothingness. I feel bad that my mother feels it's the best place to live (only because of climate. it's perfect for her, the cold blooded woman...) and my brother who has to deal with my sister in law's confusion of whether she wants to stay with him or not.

But seriously, I love my mother. What else can you do when you had to live with her for the better part of 21 years? You learn alot too...

When I heard about the taxes, I shuddered abit, but I've learned to deal with it. I've also found that the tax ratio for both federal and colorado state tax is 1.0510...compared to Texas' 1.0825. Aside from the snow during supposed spring time, it's wonderful out here.

As for the hiking, I like to do abit of 'exploring' in general, so long as I know I can get back to where I was with relative ease. As of late, I haven't been able to do such a thing in where I live at, but that's also because I lack a vehicle and a job at current. It's amazing what three people can do on getting here using a two seater u-haul!

As for your hiking comment, I'll definately have to tackle that one. Sounds like it'd be fun! Thanks!

Well, when you live there for about 11 years, it gets nerve wracking. Kerrville is classified as a retirement town, really. Not much to do and can be extremely boring. It can be alright, with being around the park, and finding little things to do, but other then that it's pretty blah.

Denver/Colorado is great! More sunny days than Florida and more ski resorts than in any other state, just a quick drive away to the mountains.
Morgfyre2008-05-18 22:45:03
I used to live just south of Littleton (in Highlands Ranch). Too dry, and it suffers from a distinct lack of ocean. Otherwise it's a pretty nice place though.

NY state tax is only .08375.

Here I was, thinking moving to another state would automatically give me cheaper taxes. whatthe.gif

Highlands Ranch must be the most disgusting piece of suburbia in existence, sorry. comfort.gif

I'd have to be agreeable and disagreeable with that one. Namely cause I've noticed that in Texas (obviously with heat and humidity) it was hard to find shade there without roasting cause the sun was always out. That's the disagreeable part. The agreeable part though is that I'm sure there is more sunny days then there, but that's also because I believe that most of the time it's 'under the weather' due to it's close proximity to the ocean. Then again, that's just something of what I think...doesn't mean it's the truth, no doubt. Haven't had the chance to check out the ski resorts, namely cause I've no cash at the moment, but also because the transportation. This is hoping to change, but we've only been here since March 8th.

Really? I take it you took more to the California region then? Or somewhere else? My fiancee got a kick out of the fact that you lived there. She lived here (in this area that is) for several years. She'd went to school here and graduated, so it's a while. I met her in Texas though, but either or, it's good to hear that there was once someone who liked this place (even if there is one or two things that are wrong with it, heh).

Actually, the Tax here is 1.0510 when using it to multiply whatever you need. (i.e. 45.85*1.0510=48.18835, or I'd say about 48.19 I'd believe)

I don't remember what the tax 'percentage' is, I think it's 1.510%....not sure, but it's broken down into two taxes, the federal and state tax.

I went to high school there (quite a few years ago now), and I have to agree that it is a pretty insipid place. No offense taken!

You know, at first, when you were posting your decimal tax rates, I thought you meant it as a ratio of one. I was pleased to see that some places dealt with 8% tax rates and ours must not be so bad. Then people started clarifying and I got really sad again. Your taxes are a tiny fraction of ours.

THANK you!!!

The (combined) tax of Colorado is actually 5.10%, and when broken down to actually use in math is 1.0510 where as Texas has a tax ratio of 8.25% thus making the use in math 1.0825.

In other news though, while the tax -is- lower here, the price of groceries, cigarettes, literally everything is higher then Texas. I've found that a loaf of bread here is about 1.50 for the cheapest, where as in Texas it's .50, maybe .80. No joke.

I live in the Colorado Springs/Pueblo area. Nice to see some fellow Colorado folk on Lusternia.

Actually, the property tax rate in Texas is exactly zero. Bastard.

well, i was refering to the sales tax, like going to buy something from a gas station or somewhere like Wal-Mart. the sales tax is ungodly, but then again, it's not exactly too bad as some places, no doubt.
