I don't understand the premise of the question. Wouldn't choosing to be any race but human in real life be the same as saying, "I want to work in a freak show and be pursued by genetic researchers while having no hope of ever getting medical care"? Or are we presuming some other world for "real life" and if so, what's it like?

Imagine you could pick a race for you to be in OUR WORLD. Only you wouldn't be considered a freak or experimented on in a lab of anything because of it. I left Human in there incase anyone was stubbornly happy with the way they are.

I chose tae'dae, I like not being able to die, and in the real world I'm not concerned with killing anyone.
