Magnagoran Battle Hymn by Ashar

Merit for December 2005

They came beneath the shroud of night
Within the gathering gloom
Before the errant rising sun
Could warn of coming doom.

Within their crystal palaces
The swords of Light grew soft
And when the call to battle came
They held dull blades aloft.

Sleep well within the blessed night
You tainted scions all;
For well before the break of day
What stands athwart will fall.

The warcry thundered forth, as though
The dark itself had cried;
And then within the Light-tamed hearts
The flame of courage died.

But still into the field they leapt
With shining blades in hand
And as they clashed with tainted steel
Red blood fell on dark sand.

Sleep well within the blessed night
You tainted scions all;
For well before the break of day
What stands athwart will fall.

It was not only blood of Light
That fell upon the ground;
As with many who seek battle,
Often death is what they found.

So the Magnagoran stalwarts,
Fearing not to reach the grave,
Sought within themselves the greatest gift;
Their lives are what they gave.

Sleep well within the blessed night
You tainted scions all;
For well before the break of day
What stands athwart will fall.

When the roar of war was silenced
And day fell upon the land
There lay not a Magnagoran dead
Without a sword in hand.

But scattered were the Light ones
By this furious attack
And the forces of stagnation
Had again been driven back.

So sleep well within the blessed night
You Magnagorans all;
For well before the break of day
What stands athwart will fall.
