With the pilot funnel command, we can transfer personal reserves to a ship. Can we have a command to transfer them back to a person?
Unknown2006-03-20 08:53:11
You would be able to take the Nexi right out of power gain then wouldn't you? All you would need to do is put power into a ship and then draw it out, it would be your own mini-nexi.

Interesting point to an interesting idea. Although, I don't see much of real gain because even if you have the power, you can't do crap with it unless you have the nexus that matches up with your skills.

Bear in mind this would make power limitation a joke. It is phenomenally easy to accrue hundreds of reserves in a prepared ship, and the risk is almost negligible.
If this were implemented, I would trade in my powerplex jewels in a second - they would become worthless.
I understand the desire behind this idea, but I don't like it for balancing reasons.

A ship costs more than powerplex jewels... I don't see how it makes them worthless...
A powerplex jewel is your own personal mini nexus also.
Richter2006-03-20 21:28:56
A powerplex jewel is by no means a nexus, it's a device that gives you five power into your reserves per day, to a maximum of 125%. It cannot store power for you.
And yes, the ship would become a mini nexus almost. You would have to put power into it, and could remove power from it. You also lose all of the power if it explodes.
I just had the idea because you can store power within a ship, but you can never get it back out. There are various ways to get power into a nexus (quests, funneling from a vortex, funneling with various skills from a node), and you can draw that power back out. You can even trade power between other people. But once you put power in a ship, there is no way to remove it.

Well, you can. You can siphon the energy into your organizational nexus, then draw it out yourself.
Richter2006-03-21 05:35:37
You can go from ship to nexus? I thought you had to be putting it from the vortex into the nexus, there's an important difference there.
Unknown2006-03-21 05:38:13
No. You link to a vortex and siphon energy into your ship.
Then you go back to an organizational dock and you can siphon it from the ship into the nexus.

You can do ship to nexus at any point.
Richter2006-03-21 05:50:19
What's the command to transfer directly from a ship to a nexus then? And isn't there a seperate command to transfer from a vortex to a nexus?
Unknown2006-03-21 05:55:07
Type PILOT and SIPHON by itself. I think it tells you.

The skills to send power from collector to ship is in the PILOT skillset, whereas the ability to send from collector to nexus is in the SIPHON category. SIPHON
EDIT: and no, last I checked you were unable to send power straigh from a vortex to the nexus. Perhaps it'll be released when the specializations come out?
And on the topic of why you can't get power from a ship into your personal reserves, maybe it has something to do with the fact that its some wierd form of "unstable" power that corporeal bodies can't handle, but the nexus can, and the nexus then can stabilize the power so that it's once again useable? eh, just a probably very stupid thought.
Mmmm... I love being an aethercraft obsessive

All this talk makes me feel poor... I can't even afford some of the better greatrobes!

Just to clearify that, though it has been said more or less... you cannot transfer energy from your ship's active reserves, that is, the energy shown in SHIP STATUS. You can only transfer energy stored in a collector, either into your ship, or into a nexus. As far as I know, there is no way to transfer the ship's active reserves to a collector. Rule of thumb, once energy is funneled into the ship, it stays there till it is used up.
However, I too would like an ability to funnel energy back to myself. Or simply more freedom in distributing either energy my ship or its collectors posess in general.
(By the way, how much energy can a ship hold? More than 100 reserves?)
You could argue that if you can draw energy from a ship's reserves, you could easily drain a nexus, but that wouldn't really work, because you're limited in how many reserves you can hold. So the cap would be 100 energy in the ship, 100 energy in your reserves. Still, that's 400 power, but then again it's highly unlikely you'd ever get to pull a theft like that more than once, unless the power ministry tending your target nexus is really inept.

Energy in the collectors does not dissapear when you explode, and is also five times bigger then ship energy. You can also have as many collectors as you want. With two collectors you could store something like 2200 power in a ship.

Each collector stores a maximum of 65,535 power as far as we can tell.
Sylphas2006-03-27 00:14:42
2^16 power. So as much as the variable they use for it can hold. See if you can stick some more in it and crash Lusternia.

As long as we don't turn the power into hamsters, we should be alright.
